A friend who manages a bookstore tried to turn me on to this offering two years ago and it took me this long to get around to reading it. Now I'm kicking myself for not doing so earlier. "Lamb" is alternately touching, funny, thought-provoking and even inspirational. In an era where so much of what is published (or self-published) is utter crap, it's good to know there are still a few authors taking the time to craft brilliant, enjoyable stories.For the first time in a long time, I had a hard time putting a book down. This one cut into my sleep, but it was so worth it! I'm now reading another Moore book, "A Dirty Job," and I'm happy to report it also is excellent. I'm sure I'll be reading everything this author has in print within the next few months. One caveat, however: if you're a person with ... mmm ... something less than flexible religious convictions who's easily offended, you may want to give this one a miss. It's intended -- at least in part -- as parody, but I'm guessing not everyone is going to get the joke.
As a Catholic I had some "hang ups" when I first read it. I even went as far to put it away and not read it anymore cause I was just SOOO sure I was right about things. I told the friend that recommended it to me that is was certainly NOT my cup of tea. He is not particularly spiritual or Christian. He told me this was the book that GOT him to read the whole bible. He laughed and cried through the whole book "Lamb" he said....So I put my "thoughts" on a shelf and read it. I laughed and I cried. I am heart broke the book is finished. The kind of heart broke that you feel when your favorites TV series has its last show of its last season and no more will be made EVER. How WILL you go on is how one feels. This book has gotten me to STUDY the bible more. When I come upon certain stories in the bible that were talked about in this book "Lamb", the stories Biff, Jesus childhood friend refers too, I laugh and remember Biffs spin on it cause he was supposedly there and he told it His way. It gives me the feeling of belonging that I feel I know something that no one else knows. I huger to read more of the bible now just to keep that feeling. Yes I know which is the real and which is from the book Lamb. I just like feeling of belonging now
This story tries to imagine the big gap that occurs between Jesus' birth and his the years of public ministry. Told from the modern day perspective of Jesus' best friend, the book portrays the Messiah as that perfect kid you couldn't even hate because he is just too good. The book doesn't espouse any philosophy or dogma, but it also refrains from making fun of the beliefs of Judaism or Christianity in anything but an affectionate way. If you have an affection for religion without taking it too seriously, you might find this an enjoyable read. I sure did.
I am a devout Christian...I also appreciate good writing and a person's effort and sense of humor. Moore has clearly done a lot of research into the Jewish ways of life and all sorts of things in the time period when Jesus lived. He said mixed it with some imagination and well meant humor. I loved the book! He went wild with it and i loved every minute of it...i know a lot of Christians might call it blasphemous but I think to that Jesus would say, "relax, take a chill pill"
I expected to spend a few weeks lazing through Lamb...instead I devoured it in three days. The humor and humanity was impactful at every turn. It is a work of fiction but it humanized Jesus nicely toying neither with his legacy or legend. The book seemed to be very well-researched and pithy. Suitable for all except the fundamentally pious. Don't skip the Afterword.
I do not write reviews, ever, but dear god, everyone needs to read this book. I've never felt so strongly about a novel before. Regardless of your religious belief's, this book is 10/10 for you. Lamb is one of those books that makes you think a little differently once you finish it and leaves you with one of the largest book hangovers of all time. In the name of all that is holy, read about Biff and Josh's adventures together. Please. Learn about the first draft of the Mt of Olives speech, how bunnies became associated with Easter, the things to look for when picking a harlot, and of course, how Josh became the Messiah he was to so many people. This book is everything. I also own and love a lot of books, but Lamb is the only one where I own a hard copy, an e-book, and the audiobook. It's that important to me.

This book was so funny I died, and raised again. No seriously, unlike me, it's dead funny. If I could recommend anyone a humorous book, it would be this one. It has just the right amount of blasphemy and "reality", keeping it firmly grounded. Having read the bible, I don't find it any-less unlikely this happened, than Jesus walking on water... Well I do, but it is an entertaining thought, isn't it? And that is what makes this book so great! It COULD have happened. Do yourself a favor and try this book, it may give you a new sort of outlook on religion; a very funny one.That said, Jesus and Biff grew on me, and I'm left with a fondness for this idea.

This book, along with "Brain Rules", and "The Woman Who Changed Her Brain", helped me make huge gains in my fight against mental illness. Of course, I also had to re-engineer my entire life to turn it around from hitting the Great Ice Berg Of Life, but Griffiths's book was the key to finding the damage done by my innocent parents who were just trying to help me stop crying as a newborn infant. Me and millions of others were permanently messed up, as Griffith's so aptly depicts. How we change our lives many years after the damage to our infant minds, depends on what we have become since. The more flexible you are the easier it is to find out who you really are, or might have been. . . Finding the earliest source of damage in my life was key to rapidly changing my brain for the better.
A Great book about a great loss which few seem to notice. I am 80 and and I remember the freedom I revelled in growing up inMontreal.. We kids could disappear for a whole day. No one worried. Nothing harmful happened that we could not handle..This book mourns the loss of the commons,the forest and fields where Children played and explored for millenia.. Play dates, total supervisionand drugs like ritalin are poor substitutes.
The criticisms I see of this book usually cite either the lack of scientific rigor, or the overly passionate nature of the authors defense of childhood. Both criticisms miss the point. The problem with modern, western childhoods is that we have defined what is worthwhile in childhood (read education) by data (or to use fun corporate language, measurables, deliverables or some other bastardized word) and how the "outcomes align with the inputs". As a parent, and educator, I am more that ready for Griffiths full throated, no punches pulled attack on the status quo, because you know what? What we are doing ain't working. Kids are unhappy, stressed, lacking in creativity and prone to burn out. The pendulum needs to swing back, and it's only when more of us get on board with the ideas outlined in this wonderful, poetic book, that it will do so.
There are many important concepts here, and some beauty and much personal honesty and passion. Mothers and grandmothers should read a few chapters. Language and references to literature very fun. Downsides - this isn't scientific research but opinion and romanticism. I was thrown off by examples, plucked from the author's experience, and presented as truth. Also, there is much repetition, so skimming is required in later chapters! That said, her concept of childhood is provocative, wild, beautiful and somewhat true.

True story: after reading a review of this book, I went to the local bookstore to find it. The clerk looked on her computer, told me they had one in stock, and sent me to the Parenting section. When I couldn't find it, another clerk went searching. Finally, when she appeared with it, I asked, "Where did you find it?" "In the travel section," she replied!It was funny, in a cute way, to think that someone might've thought there was an actual country called Childhood - a place you could buy an airplane ticket to. But after reading Griffiths' wonderful extended meditation on childhood, I almost feel I should go back to the bookstore and tell them, "You had the book in exactly the right place. Well done."This really is a travel guide to another country. And Griffiths has an acute eye and ear (and voice - her use of language is consistently, and very appropriately, poetic, surprising, and oddly delightful) for the telling detail that really does put you right there, breathing that place's specially scented air, basking in its unique quality of sunlight, feeling its particular rain and seasons and terrain. You can tell she's spent a lot of time there learning the language and talking to the locals. Maybe she's even a native herself - or just one of those folks who knows how to put down her baggage, dive in, and "go native."Griffiths makes undeniably clear that Childhood is not just a lovely place, but an incredibly important one, too. Most of us live in Adulthood and have nothing to do with it, either looking down on its residents as "primitive little savages" (as if that's a bad thing; and as if we're something really special), or else ignoring them altogether. But not only is their culture unique and rich; the land itself is loaded in some of the rarest, most precious natural resources on earth: timelessness, wildness, relatedness, play, superfluity (love that one), freedom...I want to go there right away, with the biggest mining equipment of all - my inner being - and scoop up as much as I can get! (No danger of ecological disaster here. The more we take, the more there is.) Sadly, Childhood is under continual siege from Adulterers who, in this case do not seek to possess Childhood's riches, but simply outlaw or banish them. Griffiths does not skirt this sad fact - nor the terrible violence of it.Which brings me to a warning: this is not any sort of cutesy, sentimental, rose-tinted look back at childhood. If you want something like that, you'd best look elsewhere (maybe they've come out with Chicken Soup For a Child's Soul by now?) Like I said, Griffiths has gone native; so this is a most unsentimental, but authentic, child's-eye-view, from right down in the mud and muck, from way out on some upper tree branch, and from deep within the underwear drawer of all the dirty, naughty, dangerous, creepy places we're not supposed to go - but must. Sure, we need chicken soup for our souls, at times; but a balanced diet requires far more than that; and the country of Childhood has some of the best soul cookin' on the planet. Some of it is actually smeared right on the pages of the book, so do take a good whiff.Oh, I want to go! The odd thing is, some of the landscape Griffiths describes seems so darned familiar - almost as if I'd been there once before. Maybe when I was younger? I dunno. But in any case, I'd love to go someday - maybe even to emigrate and go native myself. So, soon as I finish this review, I'll be googling "airplane tickets to Childhood." I've already got my travel guide. (Btw, Jean Liedloff's Continuum Concept, mentioned in this book, would make a great companion volume.)My only real criticism is that the psychopathologies of childhood are not always taken into account. For example, while Griffiths does a great job extolling the many genuine virtues of daydreaming, she leaves out the sad fact that not all daydreaming expresses a natural, healthy ability to roam freely in imagination, but instead consists of the compulsive rehashing and replaying of various kinds of trauma and abuse (often disguised in symbolic form). Children do need the help of sensitive, caring adults to come out of this form of "daydreaming" because otherwise it can become a life-damaging habit of escape and disconnection from reality (rather than a creative encounter with it, as in healthy daydreaming). But in her defense, if we treated children according to the to the guidelines implied in her descriptions of natural childhood - including letting them do all the daydreaming they please - there probably wouldn't be much pathology left to deal with.

Onstott has worked as the director of communications and information for the Charles Darwin Research Station in the Channel Islands and as a Spanish-language interpreter and translator in Mexico and the United States. Since 1986 she has contributed to such magazines as Brides and Latin Trade, as well as to travel guides covering Mexico, Ecuador, and the United States.

I LOVE IT! I couldn't put it down! This is so much better than the Alex Ride series! I love all the martial arts, plot twists, and just everything really. I would recommend Fledgling and Revenge to anyone that loves martial arts and spies! I had to get the books because i'm determined that my children will read them so wanted my own set.
I loved the character development, Angst and love interest, nice twist's and turns within the plot and the fight sequences are very realistic.I am looking forward to a third installment of this series, Absolutely worth the read seeing as that once you start you simply cannot put it down.

My 12 year old son loved this! He says this is the best series ever. Great for martial arts enthusiasts or anyone who likes lots of action and suspense. I was so happy to see him enjoy reading so much. We can't wait to get the next book.

Secrets of top selling agents is very well written and organized. Each chapter summarizes a concept by a industry thought leader without repeating itself. Its almost like reading the cliff notes for 14 of the best books for real estate. I actually have dog eared a lot of pages and highlighted sections that spoke to me. That says a lot considering how many real estate books I've read.
I'd give this 3 1/2 stars if I could because, while there ARE some useful, helpful tips in here, the entire book is just a rehash of the Secrets podcasts in an almost "dry" and unvarying format. (Introduce the person whose "secrets" you are revealing; tell how they came to be on the podcast and who was responsible for getting them on it; summarize some key points; plug the featured person's latest book.)Quick read (I read it in two sittings). A few great tips. Some mediocre ones. Some not relevant ones.I bought it because I had just heard Chris Smith speak at the Florida Realtors conference and really loved him.
Very good book , easy to read and a lot of information.. I highly recommend you to highlight important things and reread it and also read the books they recommend. After this book I highly recommend you read the "One Thing" by Garry Keller.
