J'adore ce livre pour les enfants, mais aussi pour moi. C'est simple est belle. (Trying to learn French and using children's books, newspapers, and songs, plus the program called Duolingo on the web. This book is one of our favorites, with wonderful illustrations and a meaningful story of a child who learns that size is relative, and perception varies from individual to individual. Acceptance of oneself and others is a good lesson, taught with humorous pictures, repetitive enough to give a child many French words and sentences that are fun to say..

I love this super adorable book. It has lovely illustrations and is about the same length/text as many classic young children's books such as "Are You my Mother." Definitely an early development/younger child book. I like that it is in both French and English so I can read it in French with my daughter, but grandma and grandpa can read it with her as well. I think this will help a lot in her learning to be bilingual. I also have a couple French only books I read with her. So far this is one of my favorite books to read with her in any language. Absolutely love it. The illustrations are so pretty and well done. She is only 9 months but enjoys when I read it with her and looks at the drawings, which have vivid colors to appeal to younger ones.

i bought this book to read to my girl; i used to speak french when i was small and wanted my girl to learn another language also but through story. this book provides the french and english version next to each other so your child and even you, know what this story is about. the pictures are cute and colorful to look at but also provides a nice little moral story about being yourself.

Vibrant! I love Tamia's curiosity and the many sweet creatures she meets. The story is simple yet wonderfully animated. Indeed the illustrations are superb. This book just might bring sunshine to you and your child's/children's day.

The two languages could have been presented in different font colors or significantly different styles. For early readers, it is hard to figure out if what they're looking at is merely a new word in the language or a whole different language.

Cute, simple and short. I want to give my baby every advantage possible when it comes to being multilingual and purchased this book so I can practice my French and expose her to the language at a young age. This is a cute little story and has simple vocabulary and isn't too long.

My daughter absolutely loves this book. We read it over and over again and we are English speaking. I read it in French. She even sits down and reads it herself (from about 13 months). The pictures are very colorful and there are lots of interesting things to look at.

Nice book for learning some French phrases and words. Beautiful illustrations. I only wish there was something that showed the proper pronunciation for those who want to learn French.

I am fascinated by forensic anthropology, and few can explain the concepts and procedures of the science like Dr. Bass. His first memoir, Death's Acre: Inside the Legendary Forensic Lab the Body Farm Where the Dead Do Tell Tales was tremendously interesting as he wrote of his formal academic introduction into the field and recounted his development of the "Body Farm" interspersed with some stories of his work as a forensic anthropologist. In this second memoir, Dr. Bass discusses 13 new cases he worked on, providing additional insight into the tools, technology and methods that he (and his graduate students and colleagues) have developed and pioneered.The cases themselves are riveting,each (like the stories of the people themselves) are unique and tragic: the case of a home-made fireworks factory that went horribly wrong; the anguish of a family unsure if the body they buried was indeed that of their mother; answering the question of whether J.P. Richardson ("the Big Bopper") survived the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly before succumbing to his wounds. But beyond the macabre fascination of the details of these cases is the sheer brilliance Dr. Bass demonstrates as he clearly, succinctly and briefly explains his craft and the way he is able to arrive at the conclusions he does. That he makes this look easy belies the difficulty of the task, the skill and experience he has, and the strength of his (and Jon Jefferson's) writing.Strongly recommended to anyone interested in the field. “… on television, they always solve the crime in an hour (actually, in forty minutes, if you subtract the commercials).”So true! This was a fun read, although definitely not a fast or easy read. I expected it to be heavy on the science, and I wasn’t disappointed. I especially liked the follow-through as he revisited several cases over the course of decades as new technologies and techniques made it possible to solve earlier crimes that couldn’t have been resolved without the new tech. And I liked that it wasn’t all wrapped up in a bow – in some cases there really weren’t definite answers – a reality that is frequently ignored in the CSI mindset.As with all the random non-fiction I read, I had hoped to learn something. In this book, I learned quite a few things. Among others, I had no idea that “Although identical twins can’t be distinguished from one another by their DNA, they can be told apart by their teeth.”I also enjoyed his sporadic attempts to lighten up what is surely a seriously dark topic by throwing in personal details like, “Luckily, considering my line of work, I have a poor sense of smell.”And the starting pun was particularly astute. I’m sure that “People these days are just dying to get into the Body Farm….”My only complaint is that the book ended rather abruptly for me at only 79%. Had I been reading the print version (and not the e-book), I would have likely noticed that the backmatter (acknowledgements, glossary, etc.) formed 20% of the book. As it was, I was left expecting more because I’d assumed I had at least another 4 chapters to go…

I love how Dr Bass tells his stories. His sense of humor is wonderful and he fascinates with the details he gives. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I also read Death's Acres, and enjoyed that as well. I even had an autographed copy of it, which unfortunately was lost in a recent fire with 5,000+ of my other books. Sold devastating. But I was disappointed that in the labeled Photo Insert section of this book, there were no photos. The captions were there, which made it worse, as that really made me want to see the photos. It's the only reason I gave this book a 4 star instead of 5 star rating.

I have read every book that Jefferson-Bass (Dr. Bill Bass & Jon Jefferson) have written. Very very interesting. Not for the faint at heart. If you like CSI, you will like this book. I can't wait for them to publish more books.

The text is a joy to read, the writing is superb. Bill's character seeps through the recaps of actual cases he and his students worked on. Covers a wide range of technology and methodologies Bill and his crew have deployed. Stories are not too dark or depressing. Told in a light tone, even comedic at times.

I went to school at UT and Had Dr. Bass as a professor one semester. I enjoyed the class although I just made a C. I guess I did not enjoy his exams so much. But I really like his books. This one is extremely interesting and informative. If you are a Bass fan, you need this one for your collection. It really explains a lot about his work and the body farm which is actually by the UT campus.

Couldn't download this book fast enough. Already familiar with the Body Farm; Fabulous insights into it's inspiration and growth as well as multiple cases from Bill Bass career. The prologue alone is remarkable. While reading this also bought his Death's Acre.

This book tells the story of Bill Bass, who years ago, started the "Body Farm" at the University of Tennessee. It goes into the mysteries he has solved through his knowledge of anthropology.

Listen... I love Tom Knisely. He's a rock star in our weaving world.. I have all of his videos and books thus far. I don't know if it was the anticipation of waiting for this one or what, but I was disappointed. Several of the designs have been done and done again. You see several of them on the various weaving groups. The one that stands out most in my mind is the M and W napkins.... do a search on Pinterest and there's dozens and dozens of towels and napkins of the very same thing. If you are a beginner weaver, you are probably going to have a hard time. There's no explanation/directions as you get in Handwoven. If you've done a few warps, you probably won't have any difficulty, but just know it's just the draft with the color/size of yarns used in each design. It almost pains me to write this... If you still aren't sure, do check through the "Look Inside" link. It shows you exactly what is in there and if you go to the Rosepath Twill Placemats you'll see exactly how each project is layed out. I could be wrong, I don't think this link was available when I pre-ordered the book. You can't win them all and Tom, I still love you!!

Lots of techniques are shown in this book. There are 27 projects with drafts, yarns, and directions for 4- and 8-shaft looms. . From rosepath to Quigley there are lots of my favorite weave structures in this book. You may want to weave the projects as given or use them for inspiration for your own colors and yarns. A dozen of the fabrics are pictured on the cover. Most of the projects are woven with cotton yarns. Cotton is durable and will wash well. So table linens is used here as a category of household textiles, not literally. All of these are designed to be used and enjoyed, not saved for best.

OK book, not fantastic. Some info is in the prelude, some is on the pattern page. Definitely not for beginners who don't understand calculating length of warp for how many place mats, etc. I think it's better to give that information in a little box or graph with each and every project. What has an author got to lose with this step since it's not being hand printed and promotes better understanding for all weavers at every stage of their progress.The photos are very nice as well as the personal stories of using table linens.But the details are lacking for my beginner friends.

The fact that I love this book doesn't surprise me because I already thought Tom Knisely was an incredible weaving teacher. This book is exactly what I wanted. Most patterns are 4 shafts, though there are a few wonderful 8 shaft projects. The information he adds about his inspiration for each project is quite interesting. Typical Knisely style - warm in presentation and thoroughness. I can't wait for the next book!

Tom Knisley never disappoints, whether it be his books, DVDs, or live workshops. This book is not a lesson in how to weave whatever structure, rather a review of different structures can be used for table linens. Beautifully photographed, with interesting stories of Tom's inspiration for each table linen, it is a reference and design platform I'll use for many years.

Very nice book with very interesting drafts. There are several I can hardly wait to try out, or to make subtle changes to fit my needs. The Autumn Breeze table runner is one of the first I want to do, and make napkins with a similar weave to accompany the runner. There are even some projects I plan to adjust to make scarves or shawls too. For me, it's a very good book to add to my library.

As always, Tom Knisley has written a weaving book with great patterns and clear instructions.

I love all Tom Knisely's books and videos. He is such a great, calm teacher and makes you really believe you can accomplish any kind of weaving you want to do. Clear, concise information and steps for each process in that calm, kind voice.

This book can be read in many ways, as a testimony of an unusual education, as a description of an era long gone by, and even as a sad love story. But it is above all a book about ideas, about the dramatic intellectual metamorphosis of John Stuart Mill.Mill went through three stages in his intellectual transformation.I'll call the first stage "technocratic optimism". In his youth, Mill was a zealous reformer, driven not by his love of humanity nor his nobleness, but by his conviction that utilitarian methods were all what it was needed to change the world. He denounced the "sentimentality", the "vague generalities" and the "declamations" of his intellectual rivals, who didn't share his optimism and accused him of being "hard-hearted" and "anti-population".The second stage can be called "matured skepticism". In his thirties and forties, after a bout of depression, Mill became less confident of his reasoning tools, more conscious of the complexities of social change, and more sensitive to individual suffering. He also became a more cautious reformer: "all questions of political institutions are relative, not absolute, and different stages of human progress not only will have, but ought to have, different institutions". Paradoxically his greater love for humanity made him a less zealous reformer.But Mill didn't become a conservative. He became a radical and entered the third stage of his metamorphosis, "radical liberalism". He chose a few worthy causes to fight for (the equality of women, the political rights of minorities, and the need of land reform in Ireland, etc.) and tried to advance them with unusual patience and strong determination. He was conscious that "no great improvements in the lot of mankind are possible until a great change takes place in the fundamental constitutions of their modes of thought". In his final years, he had the patience to do something about the modes of thought of his countrymen without expecting immediate results.It is not easy to feel sympathetic about Mill. He doesn't have a sense of humor, and his earnestness is almost comical. But he is an honest and objective thinker. Besides, his intellectual transformation is a good example: I myself have already overcome stage one, and I am ready to leave stage two for stage three.

I enjoy JS Mills philosophy and enjoyed reading about his up bringing. It was a hard read, I found myself rereading paragraphs to understand the points he was trying to get across. Lots of old school grammar. The book has some good points, about why he is who he is, views on religion, social views, education, influence of his father, a general history of the time period.

This book should have been called The Education of John Stuart Mill. Mill's autobiography is mostly about Mill's education which made him one of the greatest thinkers of the nineteenth century. Mill also discuses, in length, the influences he was subjected to during the years. I found the book to be interesting and rather revealing. Mill was educated almost completely by his dad. Just to give an example of how demanding his dad was, Mill started learning classic Greek by the age of three. By around the age of twelve he already taught his younger brothers and sisters. Like every great thinker, Mill suffered from a severe depression, where he lost all interest in life. Mill thought the reasons for his depression were the neglect of his emotions and feelings by his dad, who didn't regard "feeling" as something important that needs to be developed. Another interesting thing to note is the development of Mill thinking along the years.In conclusion, this book is recommended to people who are rather familiar with Mill's work and would like to expand their knowledge of Mill's education and how his thinking evolved during the years.

The early parts about Mill's extraordinary education are particularly fascinating. Highly recommended.

I just received this book in the mail but unfortunately couldn't read it! The font is so ridiculously small that I would need a magnifying glass to read it. I'll be ordering a different version.

However the book is not split into chapters. Besides, the table of contents don't work properly on the Kindle Paperwhite.Considering this Penguin edition of this classic is one of the most expensive, this unacceptable.I usually like Penguin for printed books but this electronic version is very poor.

An unfortunate series with a good title, Civil War II takes place in a continuity-plagued universe where the first Civil War was only really a mild inconvenience rather than a future-altering event. The heroes points of contention were flimsy at best, and the dialog was weak. If you want some sweet adventure hooks for your next Mutants and Masterminds campaign, then you should read this and heavily edit it for your play group. If you want a tightly written story about super heroes mulling over deep philosophical issues, read the original Civil War...or 50 Shades, or even Twilight before reading this.

After a cloud of the mutagenic Terrigen Cloud (unleashed back in 2014's Infinity event) hits Ohio State University, college student Ulysses undergoes a transformation, emerging as an Inhuman in possession of strong visions warning him of future events, largely of the apocalyptic nature. After his visions leads to the death of an Avenger, Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) find themselves on opposite sides of an extended, and violent, debate on the morality of using Ulysses visions, prompting Marvel Comics's mightiest heroes to choose sides as their alliances and ideals are fractured by civil war.The central premise behind this story is one we've seen plenty of in science-fiction stories, particularly stuff like Minority Report - how accurate can a vision of the future be, and if it's something that is malleable and can be prevented, how can it really be the future? Not to mention issues of profiling and wrongful arrests where guilt is a given in the face of a crime yet to even occur. Tony Stark is Marvel's foremost futurist, and believes very firmly that the future must be allowed to occur. Although he has an intellectual stake in this Civil War to be sure, he is ultimately driven by his heart, first and foremost. He's emotionally compromised and lashing out, as is his counterpart, Captain Marvel. Both are fueled by the loss of their friends and allies as they struggle with the issue of how many lives could be saved by Ulysses's prognostication, versus how many could be ruined by mere probability, or lost entirely through mishaps and the vagaries of chance. There's a very strong and resonant emotional core at this book's center, and while there are certainly a number of big, blockbuster action spectacles, I was glad to see Bendis keeping his focus on characters, where it belongs.I was skeptical of Marvel returning to the Civil War well, fearing this would simply be another retread of a now-famous story. The premise, the cast, and the large canvas Bendis uses to tell this story, thankfully, never feel derivative of Mark Millar's original tale. And while it gets a lot of points from me for delivering something different, and keeping it enjoyable throughout, it is not perfectly executed. Some moments in the book's opening feel too compressed, and the climax to Ulysses story feels like a massive cop-out, even as it's couched within an epic battle between the heroes, and fails to satisfy on the initial premise of the event. Rather than deliver a difficult yet resonant, and perhaps unpopular, resolution, Bendis instead opts to simply pull the rug out from under everybody. In between, though? There's some genuinely great moments, and I found myself digging this epic quite a lot, curious to see what each new page would deliver.While the story has a few bumps and wrinkles marring it, the art is absolutely beautiful. David Marquez is a fantastic illustrator, and his imagery is granted a wonderful shine by Justin Ponsor's colors. Whether it's a two-page spread of a fistfight, or an intimate conversation between the various players, Marquez treats it all with the same degree of importance and attention to detail. Ponsor gives it all a highly cinematic edge, making those bright costumes pop and layering in shadows to deliver the proper tone set by Bendis's scripting. While there's plenty of fighting to marvel over, it's the book's quieter moments that really impressed me, particularly the courthouse trial scenes. These type of dialogue-heavy moments are easy to gloss over, but Marquez and Ponsor give it their all, creating works of art where ethereal light and deep shadows are perfectly balanced. Seriously, the wow factor is pretty damn high!Bottom line, Civil War II looks freaking fantastic. Luckily, the story as a whole isn't too shabby either.

Not sure how this counts as a Civil War. Its only about Captain Marvel acting totally out of character and fighting with Tony Stark. Also, they killed off a major character in the silliest manner possible. That was completely unworthy for a character of that stature and history. Also, Steve Rogers is a meek child according to his portrayal in this book. Unbelievable, especially if you've read the earlier Civil War event. The artwork was OK but nothing fantastic. 2 stars just for easy flowing panels and artwork ....

The illustration is fantastic as always. The story leaves much to be desired; the argument seems childishly blown out of proportionb as opposed to civil war 1 where both parties had legitimate claims. Out of the blue you just have two bands of superheroes dukeing it out for no reason with no regard for international law with ZERO repecussion. Cyclops went to jail for his actions in AVX, and here? No one, nothing. Terrible story telling, there are much better things to read.

I liked it but there were moments where I felt lost because of the references to other comic storylines I hadn't read. I'm still pretty new to getting into comics (digital comics specifically), so I didn't realize this trend until reading the first Civil War. I also got a little tired of Stark and Danvers going back & forth on their morality because I didn't think it was laid out well; though I know that's a huge dynamic to the Civil War series'. Putting that aside however, I did like the events in this; it kept me intrigued and I liked the action.

Overall, it is an interesting storyline, with some really well drawn pages, and an interesting dynamic. But as a stand alone volume, it felt like it was missing side stories from each character, and seemed to drag at points. Not to mention the giant hanging chad at the end of the story line, with certain characters being introduced late in the series and a certain character biting it, but maybe/maybe not? Read this if you are a Marvel fan, but don't expect to walk away with much.

I really liked the imagery the introduction of various characters highlight and showcasing some of everyone. However the storyline didn't carry the same draw as the first Civil War part 1. As great as the story was it needed more realistic promoting from the characters, the story escalated so quickly with Stark being more well rounded in Part 1 to aggressive and uncompromising in Part 2. Spoilers * He almost started a war because he was upset. Good story but maybe a a little more dialogue needed to bring it close to it's Part 1 counterpart.

In no way shape or form am I a comic aficionado. This is the first comic I've actually ever read because I could never get into them as a kid but I loved this. I'm kinda bias towards Capt Marvel but overall still enjoyed it. I was going thru most of the comic wondering what's next and especially loved the artistry. There were a few cliff hangers throughout that I wish were sort of answered and the ending with Ulysses I didn't care for. But despite that,I can't give this anything less than 5 stars.
