I am not a professional executive coach. Rather, I am an executive who enjoys and understands the importance of coaching. On the whole, I found this book to be very helpful. You have to read it with the mindset of an executive if that's who you are. It's not that difficult to transform the concepts. The examples were very well done. The templates and suggested structures were very good. My only criticism, is that I found it a bit repetitive. Also, some of the formatting doesn't translate perfectly to a Kindle edition.
This is a coaching resource I keep at my fingertips! I appreciate the author's stand for head AND heart at the core of the coaching process, how to call them forth for my clients and manage them for myself.
Recommended reading for any aspiring executive coaches
Lots of best practice and insight to help any coach take her game to the next level. I am a sales coach finding engaged more and more on the senior management level and this book has helped further hone my skills. I implemented some of the methodology and results right away!

I had the book Power of Names like this, I liked it so I chose to get the The Power of Birthdays also. If you're interested in horoscopes & born just a day from being a different astrological sign like myself, I believe you'll enjoy this book. I am technically a Capricorn, but I only have a few of the Capricorn traits. My personality seemed to be a mixture of Capricorn & Aquarius. When I looked up my date of birth in this book I was surprised by how accurate it was. I then decided to look up family members birthdays and they were quite precise too. This is one of the better birth signs books I've seen.
True story...the first time I read my birthday page was around 2001. I saw a copy at my friend’s house, so I checked it out and was so surprised to find my new boyfriend’s birthday listed in the “soul mate†section, because Geminis and Virgos aren’t supposed to be good love matches. We’d been dating for a couple of months at the time and had a good laugh about it. Then, when we ended up getting married about five years later, we would occasionally remember the book and say it was a sign that we were meant to be together.About a week ago, I went into a coworker’s office and he had a different birthday book on his desk. It reminded me about this book, which I had kind of forgotten about, and I thought it would make a romantic Christmas present for my husband (we’ve been married 13 years now). So I just bought this book, and when it arrived I went back to my birthday page (my hubby’s bday is still listed as my soul mate) and even more stuff has come true! I literally got goose bumps. My birthday page said I would push for a major relationship change at 24, and that’s when I proposed to my husband! On his page, it said he would go through a significant life change at 33, to seek more stability, and that’s when he decided to quit drinking for good, so we could start a family. I was 21 when I read my friend’s copy so none of this stuff had happened when I first read it; I can’t believe how much of this book has proven accurate in my case. I see astrology as kind of just for fun, I don’t take it too seriously most of the time. But this book is something else! I can't wait to see what it says about my two kids.
Weather this book can be viewed as entertaining or to be taken seriously, it is somewhat eerily accurate! How so? Here's why: My birthday is on April 22. Under 'your special someone,' my ex boyfriend fell under 'beneficial.' And his birthday is on April 13. Although he was not the one for me, I benefited from him because he helped me to learn and grow.As for soulmates, I have 2 male friends whose birthdays are in it. One of my guy friends' birthday is on January 17, but sadly he ended our friendship. I still miss him though. Another friend is on February 15, but he's interested in men. Sometimes your soulmate is not the one you may end up marrying. It could be a bestfriend just like my 2 male friends.
For me personally, this book is magical. I’m still “unpacking†lots of the meanings and birthdays. I’m not deep into astrology so the stars are difficult to me. I’ve broken down my understanding of each “Soul Connection†based on birthdays. Tested it out with close friends and family, even past lovers. There’s this close proximity and accuracy that’s either the exact date of a person I know or one up/one down. I’ve also been using my pendulum in combination for clarity.My sister recommended this book and I purchased it gently used, saved $10.
Let me begin by saying I am not super into astrology or numerology. I bought this book as a fun coffee table book and I was not disappointed. Sooner or later all of my visitors end up looking up their birthday and they normally call everyone to attention so they can read "about themselves" out loud to the group. Tom Friend is a feature writer, columnist, director and commentator who has worked for ESPN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Kansas City Star, the San Jose Mercury News and the National Sports Daily. He has had multiple stories reprinted in the anthology The Best American Sports Writing, and his TV version of The Chicken Runs at Midnight—which he reported and wrote for ESPN—was nominated for a 2016 Sports Emmy. A graduate of the University of Missouri and a native of Washington, D.C., he lives in Southern California with his wife and two children.

I need to preface my review with two facts about myself… that made me want to read this book. First of all… I almost died during BRAIN-TUMOR-SURGERY fifteen years ago. I am a TOTALLY-BLESSED-GRATEFUL-BRAIN-TUMOR-SURVIVOR! Secondly… I played baseball my entire youth through young adulthood… and have remained a die-hard baseball fan my entire life. So when I heard about the storyline of this book... I was drawn to it. I have read literally hundreds upon hundreds of baseball books in my life… with many of them reviewed by me on Amazon. But that was not the driving force behind me buying this book. I obviously knew… and do know… what it feels like being the brain tumor patient facing the possibility of death… or in my mind… worse… the possibility of surviving and being a vegetable… but I wanted the chance to find out more about… how the people “around†the brain tumor patient/victim… reacted… and carried on around her. This was something when you’re the one being operated on and hopefully recovering… you can’t fully appreciate in detail… because you’re (if you’re blessed) too busy fighting to survive.A quick thumbnail sketch without a true spoiler… before I give my deeply seeded feelings after experiencing this story. The supposed protagonist is Rich Donnelly a big league baseball coach… who has four children… three boys… and one girl… my now “beloved†Amy. Amy died at nineteen-years-old from a brain tumor. The title… “The Chicken Runs at Midnight†was taken from a question Amy asked her Dad near the end of her ever-too-short-life… regarding his coaching style at third base. Anything on that particular item would be a spoiler… and you can learn more if you decide to read the book.Now… though the book is supposed to be Rich’s life story… I view the book as purely Amy’s wonderful short life… and as a byproduct you learn about her Father… who cheats on his wife and kids… who stops going to church… who starts drinking heavily… and try’s to put most of the blame for his deplorable loss of character and integrity on others. He blames Billy Martin… whom he terms as Mr. Chivas Regal… and other baseball men… for making him (in his mind) feel like he’ll lose his job in the big leagues if he doesn’t go out almost every night drinking and whoring around… despite the fact that he has a wife and four children at home. He blames subsequent managers on other teams for the same thing. He cheats with a girl sixteen years younger than him… and shacks up with her. And though Donnelly grew up very religious… he blames the baseball environment for making it too embarrassing… and possibly job threatening to be seen going to church.In addition the reader will learn in detail that Rich’s Father… abused him. NOT SEXUALLY… but mentally and physically. Rich carries over (as many do) some of these traits to his children. Poor Amy… the only girl in the family… so loves her Father… and only wants to please him… and he wouldn’t even let her participate in playing basketball with him and her brother in the driveway.Amy will steal your heart! What a beautiful gift G-d gave to mankind… though he took her too soon. She always wanted to be a teacher… and when she was a child she set up a classroom in their garage… and made her siblings and neighborhood kids attend class. She gave homework assignments… report cards… and sent notes home to students that needed to buckle up! One neighborhood mother complained her child brought home more disciplinary notes from Amy… than her child got from regular school. Her greatest joy for gifts on XMAS and birthdays… were things like blackboards and bulletin boards for her classroom in the garage.To further try to win favor with her Father… she started to play soccer on her own… and became one of the best in the area… she started to play basketball on her own and made the team… and then the tumor attacked. She loved baseball as a fan… and like the Father she was constantly trying to please… her favorite team was the Pittsburgh Pirates. When Donnelly became a coach for his childhood team… Amy and her brothers would spend some time each summer with their Dad (and later his new wife) and go to all the Pirate games. Amy being a girl… wasn’t allowed in the clubhouse so she stayed in the “green room†with the families… became a baby sitter for the players kids… and just like everywhere sweet… perky… tough… Amy went… she stole and owned everyone’s heart.There came a point after her Father destroyed the family with his wanton philandering… that Amy refused to talk to him. Eventually she slowly opened up to seeing him again… and would send him special little handwritten notes… which the author uses to great effect throughout the book.As Amy’s brain tumor spreads… and she continues fighting life’s toughest… unfair fight… her smiles get bigger… her heart gets sweeter… And I started to get sadder… and started to “miss†her. I found myself constantly going back to the pictures in the middle of the book… where you could see… sweet… effervescent… courageous… Amy… in every phase of her too short life.This book is truly Amy’s book… you don’t have to be a brain tumor survivor like me… to be touched deeply in your heart and soul… you’ll feel like you knew her… but just like everyone else… you’ll be sad you didn’t get to know her longer.G-d Bless you Amy!
I could not put this book down! I read it cover to cover over the holidays. The most inspiring, tragic yet touching, feel good book I've read since "The Pursuit of Happiness"! I'm a bit biased towards Rich Donnelly, having grown up in the early 90s in Pittsburgh. Being an avid baseball fan and him and Leyland's Pirates being the closest any Buccos fan was or will be to a World Series definitely brought back wonderful memories of my childhood watching those teams. Whilst those teams and the infamous "Sid Bream slide" are simply folklore now to my own son, reading what truly was going on behind the scenes with Rich's daughter makes those memories of my own all the more bittersweet. I literally got chills when I read the climax of the book in chapter 21...a book has never been able to do that for me! Truly remarkable story and definitely no coincidences in how all of this played out for the Donnelly family. OMG! I just realized, perhaps this was intentional by Rich or the author, Friend, but the book reaches its peak moment in chapter 21...Twenty-One...!!! That was the great Roberto Clemente's number! How appropriate that the most important, pivotal, touching, heartrending moment of this book occurs in the 21st chapter! Regardless if you are a Pirates fan or a baseball fan, this story will touch your soul and cast a new light on how you view the world... Nothing happens on accident... There is a purpose for everything! A great way and a great message to start the new year!!!
“The Chicken Runs at Midnight,†seems like an odd title until you read the story. Rich Donnelly takes you through his rough childhood to his career as a minor league player and manager. He also takes you through his major league career as a coach. They are all there: Ted Williams, Billy Martin, Bobby Valentine, Jim Leyland, Barry Bonds, Craig Counsell, Andy Van Slyke… An interesting story.
When our book club picked this book, at first I wasn't exactly thrilled. As a matter of fact, I wasn't sure I even wanted to read it! Of course I relented and read it. It was extremely good. I cried, I laughed, and I was amazed at the saying "- A Chicken Runs at Midnight!"
This book is so much more than just a baseball story. It's a story of the impact that a young girl had on so many people, especially her Dad. A great example of the influence that one person can have on so many people. C.R.A.M.
I heard about this story during a radio show and ordered the book shortly after. Reading this book made me feel as if I knew Rich Donnelly and his family and went through it all with them. Highly recommended

Good read
As described.
Great young people's book with some good hitorical insight. My 5th grade son read it for school and liked it. I liked that the "protagonist" was female.
Daughter loved the book. She read it because it was on her Summer reading list, but came away deeply moved by the story.
My son enjoyed this book as a summer read. He took it on vacation and could not carried it along everywhere we went until he read it completely. would recommend it.
Looks like a Perma bound old paperback. Nonetheless an enjoyable read.
Riveting
Although it was written in 1970, this story holds up well if you look past the dated cover. Set in Berlin, in 1938, this is the story of Lisa Platt, her older sister Annie and their parents. The Platts are Jewish, and the older Platts sense that things are not going to be easy under Hitler's rule. Their housekeeper quits, the children can no longer attend school, and more openly Jewish relatives and friends are suffering more and more hardships under the new regime.Lisa's father leaves for America, planning to send for the family, but things take longer than expected, and in the meantime, Lisa and Annie and their mother take a "vacation" to Switzerland, where they hope they can safely stay until they can join their father. Money is short, the mother's health is not good, and author Levitin has created a well paced story with tension, that still isn't too frightening for a 11 or 12 year old reader. Roughly sketched black and white illustrations appear every 10 pages or so. There are many more recently written and excellent stories of this time period (YELLOW STAR, WHEN HITLER STOLE PINK RABBIT, THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PAJAMAS, ASHES, IS IT NIGHT OR DAY? Just to name a very few.) If you come across this one at the library, check it out and read it! Too many twists. Too many timelines and going back and forth. Unimpressed with these two authors thinking they were clever with all the back and forth and change of character view points. Skip this one.
This book is filled with detestable characters and enough twists and turns to require a dose of Dramamine. I managed to finish it and actually liked the final chapters. Twists and turns, cat-and-mouse games are overused to the point at which I didn’t care what happened to Paul, Rebecca et al. as long as the newfie was safe. What the heck happened to this writer? Is somebody else using this nom de plume?
Repetitive with very little action.
Too many unbelievable elements required to make this story work. Also, I figured out the surprise as to what the husband was up to way before the ending. Not impressed.
The book started out well but about halfway through, if that, you know exactly how it ends. I was super frustrated but decided to finish it.
Intriguing, a cat and mouse. Eternal the husband and wife. That’s what made the ending so difficult .
I was so disappointed in this book. I read it on a recommendation of a friend and had to force myself to finish it. The characters were shallow and the plot totally unbelievable. I kept thinking “ok the good part will come.†Well it never does. One of the worst books I’ve read - nothing redeeming about it. Don’t waste your time!
