The biggest irony of this book is that the author explains his explanations to explained what he explained! And yet he says transparency is a key as a facilitator. I grew steadily more frustrated with this book, as it really lacks substance, or specific examples for different coaches, facilitators, team leaders. I just wished I was forewarned better on this book. 360+ pages, should have given away, that its not focused, rambles on, and over does it, sifting through so much to find one or two nuggests.

Like most people, I’ve sat through dozens of group presentations. Some were quite rewarding, some fairly painful. And although I do not consider myself a facilitator, on occasion, I’ve been required to lead group meetings. When I saw The Skilled Facilitator, I was interested in learning what makes a skilled facilitator. I was also a bit curious about how I could improve my own presentations and more than a bit interested in learning how my approach to group meetings may be deficient.In The Skilled Facilitator, Roger Schwarz, provides a comprehensive approach which will benefit any person tasked with leading a group. I believe that even the professional facilitator will gain new insights from Mr. Schwarz’s approach.The bedrock to becoming a skilled facilitator is mindset. Mr. Schwarz explains there are two basic mindsets – the Unilateral Control Mindset – which is our default mindset – and the Mutual Learning Mindset. In Part One of the book, Mr. Schwarz develops the foundation – the core beliefs and assumptions you should adopt to become a skilled facilitator.Also covered in the Foundation are the Eight behaviors for Mutual Learning and Designing and Developing Effective Groups.In Part Two, he covers Diagnosing and Intervening with Groups. Part Three covers Agreeing to Work Together – the framework for facilitating. Part Four covers working with virtual groups.Mr. Schwarz gives specific examples, with detailed dialogue so that the reader can fully understand the theory and how it is applied.This book is not light reading. The material is well organized, presented in a logical manner. But there is so much to be absorbed. Once you have read through the entire book, then you will need to put the theory into practice.Many of the concepts will be counter to a lot of information most readers have been exposed to. Mr. Schwarz does an excellent job of explaining his reasoning for the approach he proposes and provides the research and psychology to support his position.For many facilitators, getting the most out of this book will require some shift in mindset. This does not happen with one reading. So many readers will need repetitive exposure to the ideas and will also require extensive practice to internalize the ideas.If leading teams is your stronger interest, you might find his other book Smart Leaders, Smart Teams a more valuable resource.An excellent resource for anyone wanting to be more effective in leading groups.

I probably have a half-dozen guides to Sicily but this is the one that will go with me! This little book is packed with the best information I've found anywhere. It describes places that none of the other books have mentioned such as tiny fishing villages. It's up to date, lists restaurants, and is written in a very personal tone, as though one friend is telling another about an upcoming trip and what not to miss. The book is small,lightweight, includes maps and detailed driving directions and walking tours. I love it!
I have no conflict of interest with the publisher.Of three guidebooks I consulted for a recent trip to Mallorca, this was by far the most practical. You can even judge this book by its cover: perfectly sized to slip in a bag or pocket, durable and stain-resistant, concise and full of vibrant, representative illustrations that still leave plenty of sights to discover on your own. Although the Rough Guide had more detail, here the information is succinct and well organized. There is some general background information, but most of the local highlights are structured into regional tours that are each easily doable in a day. So instead of an overwhelming list, you have a menu from which to choose or combine to make up your own itinerary.Admittedly, this approach is not comprehensive and some sights are inevitably left out. But for a first-time visitor, there is more than enough here to fill at least a week of nonstop discovery. My only small criticism is that the restaurant recommendations seemed rather arbitrary. Whichever one was featured, it seemed to me there was an almost identical establishment on either side! But in these days of TripAdvisor, such points are moot. What really counts is that the descriptions and directions here are generally bang-on. I would only quibble with the subjective gushing over the charms of Arta, which seemed like a dusty maze of medieval bunkers to me, and the description of Cala Rajada as “up and comingâ€. Unless that is a euphemism for a new concentration of tacky development. Each chapter has its own regional map which, although small, is clear and helpfully highlighted. The back flap contains a high quality road map of the entire island. As a bonus, the book comes with a free version you can download onto your phone, making it even more convenient on the go.Overall, as the Brits would say, this book is brilliant.
All travel books offer something a little different, therefore I have 5 books on Sicily before our upcoming trip there. That said, this is the one that I will be carrying with me.
this book had some well laid out suggested tours and places to visit that weren't highlighted in the other travel books. It complements some of the other travel bibles like Eyewitness or Rick Steves.
Well-thought-out and nicely organized routes - I used this book MANY times during my week in Mallorca. It was more helpful than the 3 other books that I also had with me. I just kept going back to this one and being pleasantly surprised by the the correctness of it and the nice suggestions that it offered. Was also happy for its light weight in my travel bags. (Some other books were too dense and heavy.) Enjoy!

She tells you at the start of her book what the reader is to expect SO when you do continue to read, it is exactly what she says it is!!!!!!This story was fast, it was sweet n very sexy, the male was total ALPHA all the freaking way and YES it was over the top and guess what, I LOVED every second of it, lolThese books are great for the in between the drama and angst filled books. Her books are a great way to "cleanse" your mind and yet in a very sexy and dirty sort of way:)If you are looking for over the top, alpha males with a dirty sexy story then these are the books for you. Her H and h's are always great and the storylines never cease to amaze me!

His feelings, devotion, for her are heartwarming. His character makes the book.

Ms. Riley has done it again! This is a very short read and I really wish it was longer. The plot is very rushed but that is because we're coming in after the hero got the heroine. The problems begin after the marriage and due to little communication between the couple. This has some real life issues and how miscommunication and no communication can blow up after small things happen that seemed to be one thing when they're really another. I don't want to spoil the story but this started off Breaking My Heart but the ending made it all worthwhile. I would definitely recommend this book to someone who would like a short romantic light-hearted read that has a little bit of a mess and drama but that's it
Mr and Mrs pretty much reminds me of some of the older Harlequin novels I used to sneak from my mom and read.However, add in your typical AR OTT alpha and the naive little virgin and you have what some would consider a match made in heaven.I personally didn't care too much for the couple already being together. One of the things I love getting to read about in AR's books is the meeting and the alpha male tripping over his own feet to get the females attention...or stealing her away =)The misunderstanding between Molly and Phillip was pretty dumb. Especially considering the entire time after everything was cleared she kept pointing out how she should've known he would never to anything like her father
This started out with Molly thinking that her husband was pulling away from her. She has been trying to get pregnant. One night she goes to his work to talk and finds him in a compromising position. She leaves. For months she is gone. But in the day she decided to go back she has an accident. Phillip has been hiding something but not what she thought. With her amnesia he now has a chance to win her back. This was a quick steamy read.
This is one of my favorite books to date.. every single time i think they cant possible top this, the next book does and it blows me away. Talk about the power of love.. it has everything you could possibly want in an Alexa book. Insta love, Alpha, minimal angst and flawless and hot scorching sex that makes you tremble and have to put that book down for a few min. The characters are believable, and in turns infuriating and fun, and i loved seeing how devoted he was to her and their love. I also loved seeing how all of it happened though her eyes and how it just because you see something, does not necessarily make it so. Sometimes you just need to talk to the other person. Frankly this goes in my go to re-read story and i cant wait for more!

This is one of the best weaving books I have ever seen.Navajo weaving is discussed in a way that is both informative and thoughtful.I have my new loom set up and am excited to work using this wonderful book as my teacher.
Once again I can't wait to build a loom and start weaving rugs from my handspun yarn. A really great informative book.
A wonderful and delightful follow-up to "Weaving With The Wool" by authors that are really good teachers. Noel Bennett and Tiana Bighorse have again teamed up to give us a very well written and easy-reading book that teaches the use of the Navajo loom in a way that everyone can use and be successful making a little rug. Well done and, again, my thanks for a wonderful work.

If you're looking for a how-to book on anything other than tapestry, look elsewhere. This is not a book on backstrap looms. I was looking for info on how to set up continuous-string heddles for a backstrap loom. While this book does give some info on heddles, it is primarily focused on weaving tapestries and rugs on a frame loom. It did have more info on string heddles than many of the other books I purchased, but nothing I didn't already get from watching videos on the internet.I gave this book 5 stars because I am enjoying this book way more than any of the others I bought. I love reading the lore involved in crafting, and this book includes much of that. It may not have been the book I was looking for, but I very much like the book I found it to be. Will it help someone build a loom and learn to weave? Yes. Will it entertain along the way? Certainly. If you have interest in weaving you may want this book in your collection. I'm glad it's in mine.
I bought this for myself for Christmas so haven't read it yet but it came highly recommended and looks informative.
Beautifully written and illustrated. I was able to fashion a loom and begin weaving with the help of this text and various youtube videos. The drawings and very clear. Full of personal stories and traditional Navajo weaving lore. Folk knowledge is often divorced from its spiritual context in translation; I admire Bennett's attempt to keep the cultural implications tied to the physical practice.

This was an excellent read. As has been previously stated, I've also read various unflattering comments about Mrs. Hari with regard to this book and her activism in general. Some say she's not a medical doctor, nutritional expert or scientist; so she's unqualified to write about food. I wholeheartedly disagree. After reading this cover to cover, I feel the book is very well written and presented in an understandable format.Mrs. Hari did a great job explaining how some corporate food giants routinely add antibiotics to livestock such as chicken and cattle, usually on company owned or company sponsored farms. This makes the livestock bulk up quicker so that it can be slaughtered sooner and shipped to market. Some in the restaurant industry adds MSG and other nasty chemicals to our food in order to preserve it, stabilize it, change its color, texture or consistency, add color or whatever other goal they have in mind to get the average Joe Schmo to eat their toxic concoctions.Monsanto manufactures and markets Roundup, a weed killer that's been around since 1970 (according to Wikipedia), and it's used on many farms around the world. With bulk supplies and different variations of pesticides being used on crops (no matter who manufactures them), you don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand the possibility these chemicals can leech into and contaminate the very food we're eating or you're feeding your family.We now have genetically modified plants grown from seeds which have the unnatural ability to resist certain pests. Once crops are harvested and processed into commercially available food, it can have any number of additives contained within that ultimately entices us to eat whatever is placed in front of us, because it looks, smells or tastes good.Unfortunately the only way to rid ourselves of many of these contaminates is to grow our own food or purchase it from a local farmer, farmers market or a grocer such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Thrive Market or Sprouts to name a few. Many people don't have access to these specialty grocers because they're usually located in the more densely populated areas. Purchasing food that's grown naturally or raised to a higher standard usually means paying more for it, so many people choose not to buy it or can't afford it.The book gives excellent insight into what types of food to eat and what to avoid. There's a list of suggested places to shop in person or online to purchase meat, produce or even protein products. The book is footnoted and gives sources and references for the information contained within. The forward was written by Dr. Mark Hyman, MD.I don't mean to imply that this or any other book is perfect when it pertains to what I or anyone else chooses to eat, but this particular book interested me enough to read it and make my own decisions based on the information presented. For anyone who believes that science is infallible, medical professionals have all the answers or corporations and governments won't lie to us to achieve a particular goal, I feel they're doing themselves and possibly their loved ones a disservice.Like many politicians, science can be, and often is motivated by money. Medical practitioners tell us this year that a food product is good for us, but next year they tell us a different story. Medical professionals and scientists can ultimately be bought. All science is not necessarily bad, but it's impossible to tell the good from the not so good when the majority of us are not scientists; especially when we're just trying to pay the bills and raise our families.Thank goodness there are people like Vani Hari and many others like her, that do the legwork, blog and publicize the information to identify the jokers that would sell us anything as a means of enriching themselves. I know there are those who would argue that Mrs. Hari is also motivated by money because she promotes various products on her website. I would respond by saying we all need to earn a living. She has identified a niche that allows her to do just that, while also providing for her own family. Keep up the good work Vani.
Wow! This gal really did her research. Haven't had a fast food meal since reading this book over 3 1/2 months ago. Guess you can say it really made an impression. There were some significant changes in our eating and kitchen cupboards afterwards as well. All Good! Try not to lose your cool reading about the truth behind the scenes we've been oblivious to all our lives while digging our graves with our spoons. Don't despair. There's still life beyond Twinkies. (That's not a planet).
REALLY good info. already bought additional books for family and telling friends about it. just found her website and book this year - its changed my life very quickly - she shares info from different angles as well as gives specific brands to consider over others. i like how she freely shares so much detailed information, but also states to continue research on your own, placing responsibility on the individual for their own health, and not just to be a sheep follower. i had gotten the book just to eat healthier, but lost 16 pounds very quickly, without effort. it just melted off me since my body wasn't constantly inflamed from eating products that aren't truly food our bodies can naturally digest. i'm a cookie monster, and love my ice cream, and haven't had to give that up - I've just switched brands! ;-) the writing is a good mixture of details and humor, but has also enraged me we're not protected better from our own government agencies. One of the most interesting items I've learned is other governments around the world ban the same chemicals in their foods, or, must list warning labels on the front, but our government allows these chemicals to be placed in ours. The same manufacturing companies make the same product both here and oversees, but, the product oversees is less dangerous since it only has real food and not chemicals, GMO's and pesticides within the ingredients. It's not just a book of info, she also gives you the option/ideas/action plan of how to contact govt and manufacturers to share your interest in chemical free foods for better health!
Outstanding, extremely informative, and easy to read/understand. I love how the book is written based off the order in which you start your day with checklist.
I appreciated the straightforward way that food can be evaluated and the healthy choices and alternatives that we can make. I have not even finished the book yet but have already implemented many of the suggestions and have noticed an improvement in my health and well-being.

A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking is about modern physics for general readers. Its aim is not just listing some topics, but introducing modern physics by examining current scientific answers, although not complete, to fundamental questions like: Where did we come from? Why is the universe the way it is? Was there the beginning of time? Is there an ultimate theory that can explain everything? We don't have such a theory yet. I have read the first edition when I was a high school student around 1990, and this book is the revised version (revised in 1998). Compared to the first version, there are little changes. But there is one noticeable change in his point of view on the ultimate theory. According to him, recent findings on "dualities" seem to indicate that it would not be able to express an ultimate theory in a single fundamental formation. Instead, we may have to apply different theories to different situations, but in the areas which they overlap, they must coincide. The book has a lot of merits. Firstly, non-native English users including myself would feel comfortable and find it easy to read. He doesn't use difficult words and his writing style is clear. In the sense, he is better than other English scientific authors like R. Penrose, J. Gleick and I. Stewart. Secondly, the level of the book is well-chosen for general readers and the total page number is just less than 200 pages. If they read the book, at least, they would be able to learn more about how the universe began, how the stars have been formed, and how we have come here as the result of the evolution of the universe. More than that, the book contains interesting stories of some Nobel Prize winners in physics with their results related to the mentioned fundamental questions. This will help readers understand the 20th century's progress in physics. Thirdly, among the physicists who have contributed in searching an ultimate theory, the author himself is distinguished. He showed that a black hole radiates light, so we can say that a black hole is not completely black. Up to the time he presented this theory, everyone believed that a black hole can only absorb everything around it, but radiates nothing. To find the ultimate theory, we have to consolidate general relativity and quantum mechanics, but the two theories are inconsistent in many cases. But Hawking skillfully applied both of them to black holes, and obtained the result. The physicist, L. Smolin regards his finding as a starting point toward the ultimate theory. That we can read a book where Hawking himself explains about his theory for general readers is thrilling. As I mentioned above, this is my second reading of the book. When I first read the book as a high school student, it was impressive for him to explain that at the beginning of the universe, there was a singularity where the energy density is infinite, and so the law of physics including general relativity, cannot hold. But at the second reading, I found out that what Hawking really wanted to say was not that we cannot know the beginning of the universe, but that we need another theory that can explain the beginning by considering both general relativity and quantum mechanics. Actually, in the book, he introduces his "no boundary" theory which explains it without the singularity. But this theory has been neither verified nor disproved by experiments until now. Here is my advice for a reader. Don't think that you have to understand every word and sentence. Less than 200 pages, the book contains a lot of things and the author does his best in explaining them easily. For example, its explanation about the history from the beginning of the universe to the first living things on earth is outstanding. And about time travel, its arguments are ever clear and reasonable for me. But, in a few parts, the explanations are just sketchy, so if a reader is not already an expert, he could not fully understand them. When you meet such parts, just move forward. The most important thing is to learn some things and enjoy the reading.
I read this book with my oldest son (13 almost 14 years old) and enjoyed it even more than when I first read it in the 90s. Stephen Hawking is a brilliant writer. His knowledge of his field (theoretical physics) is vast, deep, and emotional. His ability to distill complex ideas into accessable analogies rivals Richard Rhodes (who brilliantly describes Mad Cow Disease in Deadly Feasts and the atom bomb in Atomic Bomb), whom I consider to be the best in class for this ability. I had no appreciation for Dr. Hawkings' skill when I first read this book - probably because I skimmed it. :-)This time around, my son and I read a chapter a day and discussed it, first with each other then including my husband, the resident Big Brain. Talk about rewarding! My experience with reading this book with my son has been so positive that we are looking forward to reading the Feynman Lectures together, this time with my husband, this fall. Who knows, I might become an accidental physicist. LOL
I believe that "A Brief History of Time" was the late Stephen Hawking's first book for the general reader. I can see why it was a best seller worldwide because Stephen was a very entertaining and humorous writer. His explanations of concepts in Astrophysics that I had found inexplicable were a lot clearer by the time I finished reading "A Brief History of Time."I would recommend that a person read the last edition of the book because it best reflects the current thinking in Astrophysics. The man who was Stephen Hawking genuinely surprised me. I'm seventy-three and rarely get surprised by much anymore. But in Stephen Hawking the writer I found a kindred spirit and a remarkable human being. Having finally made his acquaintance through his writing, I felt that I had been touched by genius.
If you want to know how the world and the universe works then this book is certainly the one to read. From Quantum Mechanics, providing key sight into extremely small particles and matter that makes up the universe, to relativity (general and special) which describes how space and time works is what this book is all about. What I liked most was Hawking's writing style where he inserts both humour where required (he opens with the Turtle challenge by a member of the audience) as well as plain and easy language to explain concepts about complex topics. Whilst the detail went a little over my head it was nice to go through and pick out areas that made sense. Then again I was able to read a GetAbstract summary on this book and get more out of it. It really depends on what you want to learn and how much.Three key takeaways from the book:1. An expanding universe does not preclude a creator, but it does place limits on when he might have carried out his job!2. The universe is expanding by between 5 - 10% every thousand million years.3. The police make use of the Doppler effect to measure the speed of cars by measuring the wavelength of pulses of radio waves reflected off them.
