With The Encyclopedia of World Rhythms, Vol. 1, Martin "Wolf" Murphy truly provides a world of rhythms in an easy to follow, accessible format. The rhythms are presented in a logical fashion with notation that is instantly understandable. Drummers of all abilities will benefit from this encyclopedia as the parts range from relatively easy to rather difficult. One of the best features of the encyclopedia is that several variations of basic patterns for each rhythm are presented, along with parts for low, medium, high drums as well as bells. This allows the drummer to play along with friends (regardless of the type of drum used) and, in short order, actually play together with intention and coherence. Additionally, Murphy provides insight into the origin and purpose of each rhythm- allowing the drummer to select an appropriate rhythm for specific occasions.
