Push past the man's rightly-earned bitterness and his passion for the old shoot-style that younger audiences may find a little boring, and you get an entertaining and informative glimpse into the management side of the business.Having grown up watching NWA wrestling from the '70s-'80s and comparing it to today's product, there's just no comparison. NXT's dimly-lit arenas are close, but no cigar. WWE continues to fuel my suspicions that the combined attention-span of its creative writing team is all of 15 minutes. Some of the key points Ole makes in this book:Just because a movie or TV show is fake doesn't mean you have to keep reminding your audience, and it doesn't mean that it doesn't take talent or skill - not only from the actors but also from the writers and directors.Wrestling was once so entertaining that it got real heat - so much so that heels like Ole would be physically attacked by fans. I can't imagine today's product getting a fan riled up enough to even buy a ticket to come back the following week, let alone try to stab a 300-pound wrestler!Numbers don't lie. WWE/F can brag all they want about revenue, but they didn't fill the same arenas week after week like Ole's promotions did. A weekly entertainment budget of $15 was no small amount for a blue-collar family of four during the late '70s to early '80s, so your shows had to be entertaining and the storylines long enough to keep them coming back.Thank you Ole, for the great wrestling, booking and now, this book!
Don't ask Ole. At first when I started reading I thought what a bitter person and I wasn't sure I was even going to finish. After reading over 15+ autobios from different individuals in the pro wrestling industry, it is hard to challenge what's stated in this amazing life of 1/2 of the wrecking crew. Ole is spot on and as bad as I hate to admit it, his opinions apparently are also factual. I'd highly recommend if you want it told like it is.
Either Ole Anderson was the smartest guy in wrestling, or he is the largest egotist of all time.(read prick) It's a good read, Ole was there in the 70's, 80's 90's and into the 2000's, he has literally seen it all and seems a bit bitter about it. After the fall of WCW it is pretty easy to see that the Bischoffs and Herds of the organization screwed up in huge ways, David Arquette, REALLY? I enjoyed Ole's stories and I enjoyed the inside look into the GCW and Mid-Atlantic days. Ole glories in telling others to kiss his ass, and then go on to prove they should, either way the book is enjoyable.
Listen up. No one in the world of Professional Wrestling is more knowledgeable and to the point than Ole Anderson! It is a blessing that Ole has chosen to share his insight with us! He may come off at times like an arrogant bully but If there were a lot more men in the wrestling business like Ole Anderson we would all have a far superior sport to enjoy! If you are a real fan of Professional Wrestling you must get this book!!!!!
I always enjoy reading books about the behind the scenes activity that went on in professional wrestling. Some of the other reviews seem to think that Ole Anderson is full of himself but I really feel like he tells it like it is.
Ole Anderson is the biggest fan of Ole Anderson. He will give some self criticism but that’s only for modesty reasons. The book however is very enjoyable. What should be a warning it is mostly about Ole’s career as a booker, so there is not much about his famous turn on Dusty and almost nothing about four horsemen.Ole’s views on wrestling are really old school but there is a lot of insight and it read really well.
Ole Anderson puts it right into perspective (as he always does)!!!!
While I agree with other reviewers that there should have been much more about the 4 horseman , I still feel like this was one of the better books regarding pro wrestling .Thank you Ole for telling it like it is. I relieved many memories as a child watching pro wrestling on Mid Atlantic and of course on TBS.

This has great ideas, scripture reference and loads of ideas for parents to lead activities with young children. The book seems a bit dated but it's filled with a wealth of ideas. Maybe a modern version of this book needs to be published with pictures of actual products or in color. All in all, it's a fair book.
Excellent family book which I gave as a gift to an expectant mom. This book should be republished as it's the kind of book people need in this difficult time we are all going through. I have given it several times to new parents or at baby showers.Georgiann
I'm not a big Gaither fan but when my kids were little I read this book and got all kinds of good ideas. For example, we interviewed our kids on tape every birthday. Now that they are teenagers, these tapes are a real treasure. I highly recommend this book for young families who want to start some cherished family traditions.
This is a great resource book for anyone who has children or grandchildren and they also make great gifts! Shipping was excellent.. I believe I received it in a days time!
Great book! Lots of fun ideas.
I bought this book 28 years ago when both of my children were small. I loved it and am now giving one to my daughter and her baby. I know she will enjoy it as much as I did.
love this book - lots of ideas for starting & celebrating family traditions
"Let's Make a Memory" is an old favorite. Many wonderful ideas that are easy to do or will inspire you to come up with your own ideas.

Completely skips anything video related. Might better be called: "OS X and iOS USB & PCI Drivers Kernel Programming". The parts that are included are not bad though.
The word "kernel" programming maybe a bit of an overstretch. This is a book on IOKit -- the only real part of the kernel Apple allows you to make changes too.Still, I really liked this book. There is clarity of thought in the explanations in the book. The examples are appropriately short and interesting.
I was actually surprised how much I liked this book. It does an excellent job of collecting all of the scattered information about Apple device drivers. Granted, most of this information is available elsewhere, but it can be difficult to find in one location, and Apple's technical documentation is notoriously incomplete.
I am not complaining about the content of this book, but its quality.I brought this book in May, 2016, and read several pages per day after work. Today, I suddenly find that pages from 175 to 274 are missing, and I cannot even get it exchanged. I am very disappointed about it, and I don't want to buy another copy.
First of all "OS X and iOS Kernel Programming" is basically the second book on the development in xnu kernel environment, the first being of course Amit Singh's wonderful "Mac OS X Internals". While Amit's book is more of a greatly detailed overview of the inner functioning of the xnu kernel the "OS X and iOS Kernel Programming" deals more with the practice of kernel development, at least this is my impression. Based on that i find only one big flaw with this book: incomplete coverage. This is really a book about IOKit driver development. BSD file system drivers, KAuth framework, sysctl, etc. is only very briefly mentioned if at all. This leaves a huge gap in the overview since those are integral parts of the Mac OS X kernel. More minor flaws basically have to do with coding examples and lack thereof. This book can greatly benefit with the more complete examples since most of the early chapters often end the discussion abruptly without having shown the full application of the topic in practice.Nevertheless this book succeeds in a more practical and rarely discussed topics such as kernel debugging, driver deployment, file IO from the kernel, user/kernel notifications and memory mapping, thread management and user land interaction, device DMA. The IOKit focus of the book also let the authors describe a lot of device driver types. All in all this is in my opinion a long needed book to fill the gap on practical issues of xnu kernel development and i greatly enjoyed reading it. I recommend it to anyone beginning the IOKit driver development.

From School Library Journal
Gr 3–7—National Geographic's titles are browsable and entertaining, and this almanac is no exception. It touts that it includes "everything you always wanted to know about everything." That's a big claim, but kids will find more than 500 color photos and tons of fun facts on a wide range of topics, such as animals, "going green," science, engineering, and pop culture. The entire book is a trivia quiz waiting to happen. Need to know 18 facts about fungi? They're here. So are introductions to well-known authors and scientists, a look at 3-D printing, and a sneak peek at major events coming in 2018, such as the Winter Olympics. While there's a chapter devoted to games, jokes, and puzzles, there is plenty of substance here, too. And a link to extra content may prompt readers to seek out more online. VERDICT Buy several; this book will likely see a ton of browsing.—Sharon Verbeten, Brown County Library, Green Bay, WI

Put the same book back at big box store and ordered right then and there to save $. Plus my 8 year old loved receiving a package from Amazon addressed to him. A fan favorite NG book we will definitely buy every year!
My 8 year old is a bit of a book nerd and these books have become a ritual for us. Every couple weeks we add another to his collection and this was a preorder for us that turned out to be a great investment! Every day he has some new piece of information to share that often leads to more curiosity and questions. Would definitely suggest all of these if you have a curious kid!
This is a very informative book for kids and adults. I'm seeing my grandson picking it up to read and get so interested it what he's reading forgets what he doing. I have 3 years of almanacs and they are always being picked up by someone to read. I recommend this book for boys and girls, has a lot of information that is interesting
I love this book. My children love this book, too. That's why I bought a new version each year. This year I placed the newest version in the goodie bags for my son's birthday party. Most of the children couldn't wait; they started reading right away. Some parents later told me that this book was the best goodie their children ever had.
Its Nat Geo and my kids loved it! So many facts and gorgeous pictures all packed in one that make reading fun. Size is not too big or too small. We will be purchasing these every year! My kids are learning and reading without even realising it! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Yes, kids will enjoy it, but so will adults. An example: Do you know that the earth travels around the sun at a speed that's 100 times that of a jet plane? There's interesting information for people that have a sense of curiosity.
This has kept my 9-year-old grandson entertained for hours. A lover of "factoids," there are plenty of interesting things to learn in this almanac. Great National Geographic quality.
Our 7.5 year old loves this and keeps pouring over all the facts. Keeps her occupied for hours on end.

I was really excited about this book. Kyle's story is very inspirational - not letting anything get in his way of achieving his goals. When I started reading, however, I became less and less enthralled. While the story is still impressive, the telling was lacking. The writing was somewhat simplistic, and the organization makes the story hard to follow. He jumps around chronologically, making it difficult to follow the progression of his struggles and triumphs. Some of his points are repeated many times in more or less the same language. In all, I only made it through about half the book before I lost interest in wading through for the few glimmers of inspiration buried deep down.
Five stars for a worthy story of one human among us but zero stars for the writing. Steel yourself for atrocious writing and then remind yourself throughout the book that you are reading it to learn of this young man's life and not for the writing -- and you may be able to appreciate and benefit from it. I apologize for my own shortcomings in having trouble getting over the writing - but I found it really horrendously bad - like a first draft from an 8th grader (again, I'm sorry to say this). I found myself distracted throughout by the lack of editing and the repetitive thoughts. I wish someone would have encouraged the young author to have an editor review the manuscript, because the story, nonetheless, is a worthwhile read. It's a simple book, so read it for just that. Kyle does not write with a maturity that comes with understanding how to express the emotions that drive him beyond just the raw, primordial impulse by which he is driven in his life to live with no excuses. And he doesn't allow us into his soul to understand how a man so young has learned to shut out doubt every day. At writing, he is still a youth who perhaps has not taken time yet to delve deep enough to put in writing his emotions. It is a short, very quick read - large type with lovely photos. An easy 2-hour read. I recommend this book for grades 5-8.
Even before you get very far into this book, you feel a strong closeness to Kyle. His examples and his sayings are tremendous. A great read and an enjoyable book. It takes me a month to read a book and I finished this one in a few days. GOD BLESS KYLE!
Very great story. It's one thing to tell a kid that they can do anything they put their mind to when they're born with a body that's not "normal".But it's another thing for a man like Kyle to SHOW people that it's possible. He's served as an inspiration to at least 2 of my patients and their families, because they can see the possibilities of life as an adult, defining and projecting who you are as a man, rather than letting society tell you who you are supposed to be.Excellent read. Highly recommended.
Very motivating story, got it for my granddaughter who will be in a wheelchair temporarily from car accident to encourage her.
It’s an easy read that will keep you fully engaged from chapter to chapter. However, don't read this book if you're intending to stay where you are in life. Once you see what Kyle has achieved, overcoming the challenges he has faced, the book is truly appropriately titled. And its message will hit home with you as it did me. We all are exactly where we’ve chosen to be. And so, in the end, the book is really not about Kyle at all. It’s really about all of us, and it’s time to choose differently … with no excuses!
Great product and service!
This book is a fantastic read for anyone stuck the least bit in self pity. I am a cancer survivor and reading this book helped to put things in perspective. Painful realities like Neuropathy can become too large of a focus and hence a limitation. I feel much better and more in control of my life after reading this special book. Too often, people let things which can be overcome become a wall instead of a challenging hurdle. For those of you who did not wrestle in High School this could be a long read. I encourage you to relate his love of wrestling for any passion you have felt in your life. This is an excellent book from a young man of few years and yet he has worked hard and gained a wealth of wisdom. I commend Kyle Maynard and his exceptional book. You will gain much in reading this book. Tad O. Patterson

Review
"Karen González weaves together a brilliant book that illuminates how central the stories of immigrants are to the story of God. This is true not just in the Scriptures but also today, as Karen beautifully illustrates when she describes how God drew her close. Immigration is often talked about as a policy or political issue, and this book is a sorely needed reminder that immigration is a personal issue--one that can connect us all to the heart and mission of God."--Jenny Yang, vice president of advocacy and policy at World Relief and coauthor of Welcoming the Stranger"With this stunning debut, Karen González makes her mark as one of the most talented storytellers of faith in a generation. The skill with which she weaves together personal narrative, biblical text, intimate detail, and sociopolitical analysis is as impressive as it is seamless. Every single page of this beautiful, timely book pulses with prophetic truth. It left me changed in all the best ways." --Rachel Held Evans, author of Inspired and Searching for Sunday"We are changed by whom we read the Bible with. The God Who Sees is an invitation to read the Scriptures with the fresh eyes of Karen González, a theologian with a story that is relevant, heartbreaking, and always surprising. González deeply believes in the God who sees, and she invites her readers to discover the God who is obsessed with the immigrant. In a time of fear, The God Who Sees is a powerful testimony to what makes the good news actually good." --D. L. Mayfield, author of Assimilate or Go Home"The God Who Sees artfully weaves theological application and immigration policy and practice, inviting the reader to engage more deeply in important justice issues of today. At a time in which numerous voices are being pushed into the immigration narrative, Karen González's perspectives as a theologian and Latina immigrant, straddling Guatemalan and American cultures, are both insightful and impactful. Thank you, Karen, for sharing your heart, your mind, and your voice in this book. It is a gift." --Michelle Ferrigno Warren, activist and author of The Power of Proximity"The topic of immigration can be both confusing and contentious. Karen González helps us find our way toward a deeper understanding with The God Who Sees, a story that is deeply personal, solidly biblical, and appropriately challenging. You will find Karen González an able guide to bring clarity and encourage compassion." --Scott Arbeiter, president of World Relief"Weaving insightful reflections on the stories of immigrants in the Bible, compelling explanations of the realities facing immigrants today, and her own testimony of faith and migration, Karen González invites readers into a distinctly Christian approach to the complex topic of immigration. In the process, she invites us into a deeper relationship with the God who made and loves them. The God Who Sees is an important and enlightening book for our times." --Matthew Soerens, coauthor of Welcoming the Stranger and Seeking Refuge"In this engaging book, Karen González skillfully weaves her narrative with the biblical narratives and insightful comments on current immigration realities. This slim volume is a helpful introduction for those who want to love their immigrant neighbors. I appreciated the action and reflection questions that end the book and offer helpful next steps." --Jude Tiersma Watson, associate professor at Fuller Theological Seminary"What does it mean to surrender our lives to the God of the immigrant and stranger? That question feels more pressing than ever in our modern times. The God Who Sees takes us on a journey that brings us to the heart of God and shapes a new way of seeing the world. Trust the leadership of Karen González, an important spiritual guide for these critical conversations." --Daniel Hill, pastor and author of White Awake"The God Who Sees is the book I have been waiting for: a Christian book on immigration, written from the perspective of a Latina theologian and ministry practitioner, that centers the voices and experiences of our Latino community. It is like refreshing water to my soul. Karen González stands at the vanguard of a rising generation of Latina/o Christian authors whose voices are critical for the healing of the church in America." --Robert Chao Romero, professor of Chicana/o studies at UCLA"The God Who Sees offers the powerful combination of an immigrant experience expressed through the lens of Scripture. Nothing can be more compelling for those who claim the Christian faith. As a fellow Guatemalan American, I resonate with this book that brings to mind my own memories and their emotive power. Karen González's voice is gentle, yet forceful, and needs to be heard--along with those of millions of others!" --M. Daniel Carroll R., professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College and author of Christians at the Border

David Faber's BECAUSE OF ROMEK is one of a long line of fraudulent Holocaust survivor stories, but is remarkable for implausibilities and impossibilities so profound that it would be easy to mistake the book for satire. It would be laughable if Faber wasn't using the book to poison the minds of schoolchildren at speeches he charges a hefty fee for.The book takes us from the invasion of Poland to the liberation of Bergen-Belsen. The title of the book refers to Romek, Faber's older brother, who Faber claims is a former member of the Polish Army working with the Polish resistance to sabotage supplies of deuterium, heavy water used in nuclear research coming to Nazi Germany from Norway. Any history of the Second World War will tell you that this never happened, and supposedly Romek is doing this from the tightly guarded Jewish ghetto in Tarnow, a city in the extreme south of Poland. Faber relates how Romek is tortured to death by the Gestapo while he watches, after which the Gestapo disposes of the witness by driving him back to the Tarnow ghetto and forgetting about him. This is in many ways the least of the bogus fables Faber laces his book with. He claims that after an escape he was taken in by Russian partisans working in the Polish forests. While the partisans only have a few tents and fewer weapons, one of them also has a store of girls clothing, complete with a blonde wig. These are common guerilla supplies? Faber claims that the partisans used these items to dress him up as a girl so he could sabotage the railroad, reasoning that a little girl messing with the tracks would draw less suspicion(!). Faber then states that the partisans were all killed by a forest fire set by the Nazis; he escaped by breaking the barrel of his rifle against a tree and using it as a snorkel.Just try it! Take a cold rolled steel rifle barrel and try your best to break it by banging it against a tree! It's impossible! Faber then claims that out of nowhere a woman drives up in a car (private automobiles were almost unknown in Poland even before the war). The woman drives with Faber through the forest fire area without once encountering a German roadblock or patrol, even though a major anti-insurgent operation has just taken place. With nothing better to do and apparently with all the gasoline she wants, she drives Faber, a boy in smoke-stained female clothing, over 100 miles through Poland without attracting suspicion and drops him off right in front of the Tarnow ghetto with no Nazi guards in sight. The improbabilities and impossibilities continue page after page, but reach their laughable summit when Faber comes to Auschwitz, where he goes through more miraculous escapes than Indiana Jones. Two utterly ridiculous stories stand out. At one point, Faber claims he survived the gas chambers because there was no more room and he was turned away(!). He was then approached by a member of the female orchestra who introduced herself as "Fania Fenelon". When Faber was fabricating this story, he obviously didn't bother to find out that French singer Fania Goldstein, famous from the film "Playing For Time", took up the stage name "Fenelon" AFTER the war. Then, after being dumped into the Kremas by a dump truck(!), Faber escapes a second time by hiding under a pile of clothing. This always fooled Nazi guards, right? He then just drifts into the Sonderkommando without ever being detected at the twice a day roll calls, where in the tried and true cliché of Holocaust stories, he's forced to work killing his fellow Jews, to the point where he's handing canisters of gas up to Adolf Eichmann, who he claims is personally doing the gassings and who introduces himself to Faber as "Colonel" Eichmann.History records that during the mass gassings, Eichmann was at his headquarters in Budapest; he rarely visited Auschwitz. Henryk Tauber, whose testimony is at the Auschwitz State Museum, states that none of the Sonderkommando were boys (Faber being about 16 years old at this time) and that all Sonderkommando were locked up out of sight during gassings; none of them engaged in it. Finally, the SS did not use military ranks. Eichmann would never have introduced himself as a "Colonel"; his rank was Obersturmbannfuhrer. Faber seems to have researched his fraud using the least reliable histories he could find. And on and on it goes. During the evacuation march from Auschwitz in January of 1945, Faber actually escapes from the Nazis and finds himself in a farmer's barn with several other boys milking a cow. Before morning, Faber then rejoins the column, unwittingly painting himself as stupid. Later in 1945, he claims he's at Dora digging underground tunnels. As Andre Sellier details in "A History Of The Dora Camp", Dora was a camp Jews were deliberately excluded from and where, in 1945, all tunnel work had been completed. These are only selected examples; the whole book can be played as a merry game called "Find The Fraud". Faber doesn't present a scrap of evidence, save pictures of his family, the firmest possible proof you can find that he had siblings. It's endorsed by a variety of people, none of them historians, and is co-written by James D. Kitchen, whose credentials are unknown; the name is possibly a nom de plume. The book has gone through several different editions as Faber tried to change his story in a futile attempt to fit historical reality. No reputable publisher would touch this book; after first publishing it samizdat, he found a shadowy company called Granite Hills Press to publish this edition. Is there a reason to read this book? Well, once you realize it's bogus it's actually funny, and if you have a malicious streak you can get a laugh from all the gullible people who actually believe this crap. Second, as I mentioned, Faber the Fraudster actually goes to schools and churches and gives speeches about the book, twisting the minds of impressionable children right under the eyes of some very negligent teachers and parents.Outraged? You should be.
First off - I am NOT a holocaust denier at all -- I completely believe 100% that it all happened, and that horrific and inhuman acts were inflicted on millions during that time, with most dying.I've read a Lot of WW2 era books - non fiction accounts of the times, and one can easily do some simple investigating on Google and other internet resources to fact check this........ too many times while reading this book, something in the story didn't seem right to me, compared to what I had previously read and learned. While I presume that Mr. Faber did indeed suffer the loss of his family and spent some time in concentration camps - I cannot believe that this story wasn't embellished considerably to make for more exciting and interesting reading. It seems to be a collection of every sort of experience that one could possibly have had during the Holocaust, all rolled into one story.Just a few of the things that didn't seem right -- why wouldn't the German soldiers searching apartments know to look under sofas and beds? Perhaps Mr. Faber was out of the apt. at the time of his families slaughter and just wanted to put himself at the scene to make it more poignant? I can 'almost' accept this one, or at least understand it.Mr. Faber was a small 13-4 yr old, with no military training or country life skills, who yet managed to escape from Numerous homes, ghetto apts, camps and a death march - and then is able to re-enter these same places without anyone noticing his absences. He gets taken under the wing of a partisan group he stumbles upon after one of his escapes, and in a few days he is a key part of their plans to derail German trains?! He survives a forest fire by breaking a gun in half (this is Not something that would be accomplished by just one blow against a tree!) and uses it as a snorkel, as the fire passes by him - and he just happened to have heard of such a way to survive a fire? A mysterious 'Lola' conviently finds him afterwards and with no questions asked, she buys him new clothes and drives him very far back to the ghetto his family was in. Cars and fuel were in very short supply back then, making this really unlikely. The German authorities believe that he is an 18 yr old adult metalworker, when he applies for his papers as a scrawny 14 year old? His brother, Romek creates some sort of cooked vegetable paste that magically transforms his mother from a sick, wrinkly older woman into a beautiful younger woman - ummmmm, yeah?In the various camps, there are encounters with a veritable who's who of infamously evil top SS men -- Dr. Mengele sends him to the gas chambers (which he avoids BOTH times) and many others yell at, torture, or punish him. He also name drops musician Fania Fenelon (a name she adopted After the war) as one of the many who tell him they know HE is going to survive the camps. The story that seems most likely to be fabricated is the one about his second time to the gas chambers, where he just hides under some clothes. The Germans were obsessive in counting prisoners and they all had their numbers tattooed on their arms - so his easy slip into the job the Sonderkommando after being found was extremely unlikely. This was a unit of grown Jewish MEN, who were kept separate from other prisoners, fed a bit better, and performed their jobs of processing the dead from the gas chambers into the ovens - These prisoners would seldom last 3 mo. before being killed off and replaced with a new squad. Of course, he just walks away easily from that squad after briefly pretending to belong. He was also very unlikely to meet Eichmann - who didn't personally visit the camp often. He was in charge of making the transports work as smoothly as possible - office work largely, and wouldn't have been the person administering the ZyklonB, handed to him from a prisoner's hands - Mr. Faber's hands. That job belonged to the SS and an SS Doctor. Lastly, after liberation - Mr. Faber is so weak he can barely crawl a few feet. Red Cross nurses pick him up in their car and he goes to the hospital. Because hospital staff are only feeding him small amounts (large amounts fed to the newly freed prisoners Killed many of them inadvertently) - he breaks out of the hospital in this very weakened state, grabs clothes and a gun and walks to a nearby house and steals food and gold from a German family, then returns to the hospital with his loot!?!If you want compelling reading that is an accurate account of life in camps - there are plenty of reputable sources out there. I highly recommend If This is a Man by Primo Levi as a start point.I can understand how anyone with minimal knowledge of the details of the Holocaust would get taken in by this account of Mr. Faber's. As I said, he may have suffered horribly in his own experiences, but he does a disservice to himself and his family to have embellished this story. Embellishing this story makes things easier for the Holocaust deniers, because they can point to the inaccuracies and just then dismiss the Holocaust as false. Readers should know that there are Many editions of this book out there - all with changes made to make the story fit into history better after inaccuracies were noted. One could certainly understand being unable to recall a specific date, but there is just too much wrong here to wholly believe this tale.
