Allow me to explain why.Experts who study the brain know that 95 to 99 percent of our feelings and behaviors are controlled automatically by habits that were haphazardly programed, by various sources, from birth, into our subconscious minds. Think about that for a minute and really let it sink in, because it may be the most profound thing you will ever hear.Bombshell number two: our conscious minds have no direct access to these subconscious programs. So we can't (ordinarily) change them, we don't know when they are influencing us, and we don't even know what they are. This ability to auto-program and auto playback feelings and behaviors without conscious thought is essential to our daily existence. However, some of our programs can be counter-productive and even harmful.Of course free will allows us to make free choices any time we want. But the salient question here is not "can we make free choices", but rather, "how often do we actually do it?" You can lie to yourself all you want, but the answer is one to five percent of the time. The other 95 to 99 percent of the time we are on autopilot, habitually acting out our programs, for better or worse. And the more optimistic five percent only pertains to exceptionally self-aware individuals!Occasionally we take notice of the results of our programs, wondering why we sometimes feel or act in ways that are completely irrational, immature, counterproductive, or destructive. We may even resolve to "change ourselves", no matter what it takes. But it is critical to understand that "free will" and "positive thinking" have no lasting influence on subconscious programs.This explains the extreme difficulty in making real changes to our character using (other) self-help methods--even when, on a conscious level, we perfectly understand the principles described. We are simply powerless to change our subconscious programming directly with the conscious mind, no matter how much time, effort, or "free will" we exert.If this all sounds somewhat disconcerting to you, it should! Fortunately, we have this excellent book! It shows you exactly how to indirectly access your subcsoncious mind and reprogram it in ways that work to enhance your life, instead of sabotaging it.And believe you me, it works! I was skeptical at first. Then I was completely blown away to see results manifesting naturally and effortlessly, just from following a couple of the simple exercises in the book, once or twice a day, for a few weeks. I have never experienced such a dramatic and profound change in my character from any other self help method, no matter how much time or effort I invested. It is hard to find the right words to describe the experience... It is somewhat uncanny, to be honest, to notice yourself automatically acting and feeling differently. It's something you have to experience yourself. It's like you have been hypnotized. No--you actually have been hypnotized. The author understandably avoids that word because of some unfortunate negative associations, but that is part of what you are actually doing in this book-- learning how to hypnotize yourself. I wouldn't have believed it could work, or at least work so dramatically, if I hadn't tried it myself.And it gets better: as the author explains, reprogramming your subconscious does not require a "puritan work effort"--in fact that would work against you. All you need to make profound and lasting changes is minimal effort, repetition, and a little knowledge about how your mind really works.Even if you have no desire to change anything about yourself, this book is a fascinating read. It provides fundamental insights into the workings of the human mind that most people will live and die without knowing. That is truly a shame.The author makes a very important point that I agree with completely: the value of the information presented is grossly out proportion to the cost of the book. In other words, considering the results you can get, with minimal effort, it is a steal. In my opinion, passing this book up when you have any interest at all in changing yourself, would be a grave mistake. You would miss out on one of those rare opportunities in life to get something incredibly valuable for virtually nothing.The only two gripes I have about the book are minor. First, the whole "genie" metaphor, while apt I suppose, is a little cheesy for my tastes. Second, the audio files you can download (for a small fee) from the website were recorded by the author himself (I believe), who has an accent which is distracting (to me.) I ended up recording the scripts in my own voice on my phone instead, and set them to repeat mode (you should do this too!) The text for all of them is included in the book, so you don't need to download anything or pay for anything extra.Buy this book, read it completely, and follow a couple of the exercises consistently every day for a month--and see what happens. You're welcome.
I own this book in paperback. You can read my review of the book in that section. (I don't know the author and have not spoken with him) This is one of the true treasures in this genre. Years ago,after buying the paperback, I sent for the CD that teaches the hypnosis routines that go with the book. I've worn out two CD's already. They get that much use. NOW I find the book available for my Kindle fire AND the CD hypnosis routines available as Amazon MP3 downloads. I am delighted with this turn of events. Now I can have the book and CD with me without carrying around the paperback and a CD player. NICE! I have read and reread the book and go back to it often. It's great to have it in such a portable format. I've checked the Kindle version to see if it's OK now (given all the previous complaints). It is fine. The audio MP3's are fine. I recommend the whole package together. They're fine separately, but you'll want both. I keep the book too, because I have the odd habit of writing pencil notes in my books. Still, the Kindle version is wonderful. Glad the Kindle version got straightened out. Nice Job!
Reading is great, interesting knowledge given in the book which I agree with partially on some fronts, but can understand this was written to take the "Whohoo" out of it and leave it strictly under the scientific versions of opinions/descriptions of things. However the practices he gives - just do it. You will never know until you do, and keep doing it even when you aren't in the mood, don't feel it, or whatever the excuse is, just do it. Nothing is instant, nothing is guaranteed, but persistence and perseverance is all that is required. He gives a lot of solid truths and things one should know in this book and I am grateful for the knowledge gained though reading it.
Harry has taken the mystery and intrigue out of dealing with my subconscious mind and opened doors to me that have remained locked for years. Over 20 years ago I started reading scores of books and had personal first hand experience with the subconscious mind in the medical field. I received an early bone marrow transplant and the research facility I was in was exploring this field for pain management, fear management and healing at various levels. We were taught to actually affect the function and efficiency of our T-cells and bone marrow, minimize pain during various procedures and deal with the fears of cancer and experimental treatments and living daily with death. However, even with all that training and experience there were areas that were still in the dark. Harry has shed light on those areas and I am now developing a personal, loving and fun relationship with my subconscious mind! His book is down to earth, simple to understand and laced with wit and charm. In no time I felt as if Harry were an old trusted friend. As a minister, I especially appreciated the final added chapter on prayer. Wow. Subconscious mind explained very simply. Sample scripts at end of each chapter to assist in learning to program your subconscious mind, which he compares to a Genie ready to grant your every wish once you understand how it works. This is the kind of book to be studied, even though it is a quick read. I've highlighted and underlined and have starred sections throughout. Some really great information on here, presented in an easy to understand way. I highly recommend this book.

I have been a big Greg Iles fan from the beginning of his career but unfortunately this will be my last book of his I purchase. Like many of my favorite authors the practice of adding politics to their stories is a giant turn off for me so I will simply return this book and get my money back. I work way tooo hard for what little money I make to spend it supporting the liberal agenda. Sorry Greg and toodaloo to you!!
Once again I paid good money for a book by an author that i liked only to read this idiotic anti Trump garbage. Iles isnt even consistent in this. The Dad in his book is Anti Trump who is later described as a Trump supporter with a brick and a mask. Hey Greg you are confused. That is Antifa. Just like with Winslow and his book The Border I will be getting my money back as i am not going to pay good money for this dreck.
When Nascar drivers are interviewed after a race and take a big drink of Coca-Cola on camera, they receive $10,000. Most donate it to their charity, but still it's distracting. The same is true in Greg Illes new book. My favorite author must have received a new Ford Flex, or a few dollars per mention. I'm almost halfway through Cemetery Road and not sure I can finish. He sometimes refers to his Flex 2 or 3 times on one page. "He turned and walked to his Flex" "He placed his briefcase on the back seat of his Flex." Okay..I get it. You have a Ford vehicle.

About the Author
R. A. MONTGOMERY attended Hopkins Grammar School, Williston-Northampton School and Williams College where he graduated in 1958. He pursued graduate studies in Religion and Economics at Yale and NYU. Montgomery was an adventurer all his life, climbing mountains in the Himalaya, skiing throughout Europe and scuba-diving wherever he could. His interested included education, macro-economics, geo-politics, mythology, history, mystery novels and music. He wrote his first interactive book, Journey Under the Sea, in 1976 and published it under the series name The Adventures of You. A few years later Bantam Books bought this book and gave Montgomery a contract for five more, to inaugurate their new children s publishing division. Bantam renamed the series Choose Your Own Adventure and a publishing phenomenon was born. The series has sold more than 260 million copies in over 40 languages. He was married to the writer Shannon Gilligan. Montgomery died in November 2014, only two months after his last book was published.

Bought this book for my grandchildren as they love to read anything written by R.A. Montgomery.
both my 9 and 7 year old kids love to read and reread this book
I bought this book because I like the creative idea of allowing children to choose their own ending. That being said, the story is not very interesting or engaging. I found it to be on the boring side. It wasn't very adventurous.
I just started reading my kids these CYOA Junior books. (I read the old version of this, not the new Chooseco, if there is any difference). Having read scores of these books, I can say, hands down, this is the WORST one I ever read.The main problem with this book is that you have to supply your own mystery. We are bringing our friend to this magical owl tree which we have previously discovered, but the book gives almost no backstory about this owl tree, and our previous experiences here are absolutely no help to us.The choices are terrible (before I could read the choices, my six-year old provided her own choice "Ask the other owl a question" which was the logical choice since the saw-whet owl was bee-essing us, but that was not an option. We could either ask the saw-whet owl a different question, or re-ask the same question. And the questions we ask in the story (total: two) are provided for us and are terrible questions, and the book tells us they are terrible questions, because we make our own future. Now, that's all well and good, but you FORCED us to ask these dumb questions!It is very sloppy, totally boring -- in the best ending (I guess) you get a ticket to the magical kingdom, and that is the end. (You have to make up your own magical kingdom.) Honestly, this books reads like a preview to get you to want to buy a different book.Also, I was annoyed when we are climbing a magical wall that keep growing, so we can't reach the top. If you pick "Keep climbing" you are magically on the ground again, and either fly or jump to the top of the wall... it really doesn't make sense.We still love CYOA books, but this one was NOT good AT ALL. It makes Tattoo of Death look like a masterpiece. And that is still grading on a curve, acknowledging that the Junior CYOA are necessarily much simpler. I would recommend "You Are Invisible" or "The Evil Wizard" (the previous two we read) which were HEAD & SHOULDERS above this entry.

Tears are streaming down my face as I finished, 2 am on a Friday night, K.L.’s book. I started it at 10 pm- yes, I read the whole thing in 4 hours. It’s riveting. So many things make sense. What she went through I fear is so very much worse than what I did, but so many things make sense. EXCEPT OUR DAMN JUSTICE SYSTEM! Wake up, social services! Wake up, advocates! To me, this book is a call to arms. More victims MUST stand up and become survivors. So these men can’t practice their evil for 40+ years!!!!! God help America and God have mercy on the evils that earthly fathers do. And shed light on the evils.
I picked out this book randomly a few days ago when I was bored and just wanted to ready something. At first all I expected from this book was a good and interesting story, but when I continued reading, I found it to be SO much more then that. I was deeply touched by the bravery and strength of the girl, and I actually cried several times when some of the moments really hit me. After reading this book, I finally have an idea of what is it that a lot of people are going through, and I can finally understand how hard and scary it must be for people to open up and seek help when they are being abused, sexually harassed, or something even more horrible. Before even though I've been to a lot of assemblies where people come in and talk about how most victims in these kind of situations didn't have a choice when they first started (the assemblies were most about human trafficking, although this isn't what's been discussed in the book, it somehow reminded me of this), there had always been a part of my mind that thought maybe if they really wanted to get out of it in the first place, they could have a choice. And back then, I never realized there could actually be people around me who might be going through this right now. Looking back at it now, I just realized how arrogant I was before. This book has taught me a lot, and I believe it could inspire a lot of people who are experiencing similar situations in their lives right now. And maybe the strength of the character could also give them the same courage to stand up and seek help.
This book isn't a literary work of art, BUT, it is an easy and empowering read. The biggest hurdle is reading the painfully detailed descriptions of the abuse. Once you can see beyond that and enter the strength of the author- this book invites you to experience the world of misery so many people have experienced that you may never have been able to imagine. It opens your mind to why people are so intricate and individual. This book reminded me that we are all a product of our experiences and no one ever fully knows what we ourselves have experienced. This book may teach you to be more apathetic and empathetic to others or it may remind you to forgive yourself.
I love a good "based on a true story", and appreciate the author telling her story, as hard as it may have been. I could tell she's a novice author, but for being such, she did a phenomenal job! It started a bit slow, but after finishing the book I appreciated she did so; she didn't throw in your face the plot. To have the guts, the spunk, and the valor to face such evil, gives me hope for many others. Finally, I love the last chapter; it helped me and explained a lot to me. Thank you for sharing your story!

This book is OUTSTANDING!!! It is amazingly well written and has your attention till the last word. I picked this book randomly based on the reviews I cannot recommend it highly enough to others. What an amazing story and a great read. Thank you for sharing such a difficult time in your life
I'm not an avid reader and wanted something to read on the treadmill. So much for the workout. I couldn't stop reading this well written first hand account of the horrors that took place in this family. We need to all be aware and look for signs of abuse in those we meet and not stand on the sideline. Get involved, ask questions and be that bubble for those in need. The world needs more Gina's and Midge's.
Didn't know what this book was about when it popped up in my kindle suggestions. I downloaded the book only because it was a true story, which I'm a sucker for. I started reading it during some down time at work and couldn't wait to get home to finish it. Well written and held my attention. There were a few times where I wanted to stop reading when the subject matter touched too close to home, but it helped me deal with some past demons by forcing myself to continue. Touchy subject, but one that needs to be talked about.

About the Author
William Cunningham is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Minnesota where he taught for 36 years in the Departments of Botany and Genetics and Cell Biology as well as the Conservation Biology Program, the Institute for Social, Economic, and Ecological Sustainability, the Center for Environmental Learning and Leadership, and the McArthur Program in Global Change. He received his Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Texas in 1963 and spent two years at Purdue University as a postdoctoral fellow. At various times, he has been a visiting scholar in Sweden, Norway, Indonesia, and China, as well as several universities and research institutions in the United States.Dr. Cunningham has devoted himself to education and teaching development at the undergraduate level in biology. He began his educational career in structural biology but for the last 10-15 years has concentrated on environmental science, teaching courses such as Social Uses of Biology; Garbage, Government, and the Globe; Environmental Ethics; and Conservation History. Within the past four years, he has received both of the two highest teaching honors that the University of Minnesota bestows -- The Distinguished Teaching Award and a $15,000 Amoco Alumni Award. He has served as a Faculty Mentor for younger faculty at the university, sharing the knowledge and teaching skills that he has gained during his distinguished career.
