I was privileged to work for Amerada Hess early in my career. Much of what was written rang true with my experiences and knowledge on the company, but this also filled in many gaps too. Leon was a greater man than I even realized at the time. I loved working for Hess. The company had tremendous camaraderie. You worked hard, and sweat the details, but it was like a family.
Fascinating book about such a complex man. A true american rags to riches story (only true). His story is amazing. Great read and a great gift idea!

This study guide is a great start to the book of Philippians but lacks depth. Most of the sections have a short dialogue followed by a list of questions. While the questions are good at starting a conversation there is not much interpretation or background info. I would have liked a little more prompting and detail to lay the groundwork for a conversation.

I thought the price of this book was a bit steep for a paperback, but when it arrived I realized it is not just a paperback, but a very small paperback, which makes this the most expensive photo book, per square inch, I have ever purchased. Be sure to check out the "dimensions" in the product info. I like the book and will not return it as it is a classic, but seriously, this should be priced $20 or less. Having said that, the content of the book is superb, and the printing is very nice.
The book I knew from my own copy bought at the time of publication. However, I needed another copy as it was not with me in the USA. So I bought this from the supplier advertised where it was stated that it was in good condition and with the pages still solidly embedded in the spine-glue.It arrived well packed, on time and as I expected. Until I opened it and started turning pages to reacquaint myself with the content.The pages started to fall out.Disappointed...Moral: unless you absolutely NEED it, then buying second hand books more than 20 years old of this kind is quite likely to offer some eventual disappointment.

I found the beginnings of the story to be honest and forthright, and having humor (book club details), but as I continued reading, I was caught up in what feels like self-absorption, at the expense of others. (Taking catering server shifts on holidays and leaving young family at home, to dispel the sadness of missing eldest child away as an exchange student in Europe. Or dismissing her husband’s very real challenges for shifting careers prior to her shift, which required the entire family to be up-ended financially. Requiring that husband begin moving at 8 PM after his 14 hour work day.) I don’t know. This just did not resonate in the way I had hoped. This story actually jarred me.
Admittedly, when I bought this book I thought it would give me room by room instructions for how to organize every space in my house. In a way it is that, but it is so much more. I have described this book to friends as a cross between a personal memoir and a de-cluttering self-help book. Laura's book is an inspiring story of the journey towards happiness and self-fulfillment by simplifying our surroundings and unburdening ourselves from all the things that weigh us down, not just the clutter in our homes, but the clutter in our day to day lives.After a successful career as a teacher, Laura took the proverbial plunge towards her own self-fulfillment by leaving the classroom and her comfortable life in the 'burbs to buying an actual hoarded house and becoming her own boss with her home organizing business. It was delighfully suspenseful at times and Laura's writing style made me feel like I was reading through a good friend's personal journal ---relatable and very down-to-earth. A quick but compelling read, it left me feeling inspired to give careful consideration to the goals in my own life, how I spend my time both at work and home, and where to keep all those extra lids to the multiplying plastic food containers in my kitchen. (hint - toss them!). I highly recommend this book.

The point is to follow your intuition -- and you can do that at any risk level you feel comfortable with.That is exactly why this book resonated with me. I am working on learning to follow my intuition, both for organizing my home and for finding a new passion and possibly a different career.Letting go of things is extremely hard for me (for fear that I will need them down the road), but this intuitive approach will help.

After Laura helped us the clutter and mystery is gone. It took two days, but it easily has saved us that and more. While a few panels appear a little "unfinished", and the layout of the panels could be more dynamic, most of the panels are drawn and colored in great detail.The story is entertaining, and the story and characters remind me of a Jane Austen novel; however, I collect graphic novels and children's books for the artwork and not the story, so that's why my review is scant on the latter.Speaking of Jane Austen, if you love this book's artwork, you might also like the graphic novel, Sense and Sensibility, adapted by Nancy Butler and illustrated by Sonny Liew. The colors and line work have a very similar "feel" to them.
The art is beautiful.The many sisters have to survive without parents, who appear as friendly ghosts.I have never liked the trope of friendly ghost parents protecting people. Dead people are just not helpful, and the dead parents are too sweet to stomach. The elderly great aunt is a snore of a cliche, too.But the art is lovely and you do find yourself hoping it all works out, and hoping that volume 2 will give more depth to the situation, so, OK, 4 stars.Loved the afterward where the artist and writer discover their mutual inspirations for the characters.
This graphic novel is a winner! I predict great things from it. Great story line and fantastic graphics. The book really came alive. Just bought this on a vacation in Berlin. Rushed back to the bookstore to pick up the second in the series only to find it hasn’t come out yet. Will keep my eyes open for when the others come out. Loved it!!!!!!!
